OK i know im a madman about this..

ok-- i REALLY wanna modify the dash on my car-- and I bought some reverse indiglos cheap off ebay, but im too stupid to install em myself and no pro shop is willing to touch em since they all claim theyll short out and they wont do the work-- and my brother? well forget him... ANYWAY-- i see these chrome rings to go around the existing gauges on ebay (which works for me since i really like the classy font on my '97 gauges which changed to some weird italic for 98 and 99) but they are for a 94-97 Accord-- im ASSUMING they are the same deal as ours right? same diameter and all that? anyone know? thanks kids..

jersey heads....good shit on the non-italicized dash...there are instructions on the board how to install the gauges just be careful those things will ruin your day, night, and next week if you botch it up..ohhh yeah 94-97 accord have the same dash exactly the same...

hey thanks man .. but you know, I'm not even gonna bother with the indiglos if they are that much trouble-- i saw the instructions and all , but i think id much rather just keep the look and class it up a little with these chrome rings.. Ill take some pics and show all you guys-- next step? chrome shifter .. ( i have a 5 speed) -- OB? Old Bridge? I'm right nearby you.. im seen some kid in Freehold with a red one too --

did you already get your gauges? bad news, youi are going to lose the italicized font with the new gauges. only the cl's had that font and even though the cars match up, the fonts were different.

oh i know ross-- im decided to NOT replace the gauges and just install these rings so i can keep the nice font that i like-- its kinda exclusive , too-- since the CL only had this font for the one year.. (the previous generation TL has it too) ..

anyone want my indiglos that i dont want anymore? :-)

i think he means the 97 is exclusive because it does not have the italicized font like the 99 and 98

yes exactly-- only 97 has the NON-Italicized font-- its a bigger, classier looking letter-- the italic one is too small and well... girlie lookin to me.. :-) (no flames-- dont get crazy-- it just looks feminine to ME).. its the same at the last TL's....

the NEW cl doesnt have Roman-style numbers at all right? its all -- contemporary looking -- i like that too

matchjames,

What terms did you use on ebay to search for the 'chrome ring dash trim' for the honda accord?
I've started to look for the same thing recently.

I did a quick search on ebay and the only thing that came up resembling what you describe are the 'euro dash' for the accord. If thats what you were talking about, then as a friendly warning , don't get them. I've already tried to see if I could somehow fit those on my CL, but there is too much of a difference in the dash mount points/size.

On the other hand, if what you are talking about is a flat type of dash with chrome rings, then that would probably be ok and that is what I am looking for as well.

btw-I visit some friends once in a while in the North Brunswick area, near Finnegans Lane, if you're familiar with the area. If you change your mind about installing the indiglos, let me know, and I'll let you know when I might be in the area.

Could someone post a pic of a '97 guage cluster? I'm really interested in seeing the difference from my '99. I'd like to judge for my self whether they look "feminine" or not.

Thanks 99Acura2.3CL, they look cool too. I was actually hoping they have the whole dash face with the chrome rings as one whole piece. No matter.

MatchJames-I am gonna outbid you at the last second for those!!! :smile Just kidding, you can be the guinea pig and let us know how it looks. I'll let you know when I'll be in the area and we check our cars out.

thats out there too! Ebay is so weird-- sometimes when I search i find things, other times not-- ALSO, keep in mind there is NOTHING Listed for CL's really-- everything I find is really ACCORD specific.. I HAVE SEEN an aluminum gauge panel (brushed?) with integrated chrome rings too on Ebay-- but i dont know if its an EXACT fit to the shape of the gauge binnacle? You know what I mean? I know the round GAUGES are the same, but its the housing and face that they are ON the same EXACT shape and size? otherwise this thing would NOT fit--

Hey guys, I found another set of rings on Ebay. I think they went up for auction today. In the future, if you search under "Chrome Rings", you should continue to find what you're looking for. In the meantime, here is the link to the second set. The picture in this auction actually looks like they will fit our guage cluster. Keep me posted on how they turn out. I'm considering getting some myself but I'll let you guys try them out first and work all the install kinks out. Good Luck!

ok, i searched for you and found these instructions, im sure theyre the same and once youve got it off youll figure it out! GOOD LUCK< and hope this helps!

Gages

FIRST, Take off all the molding around the steering column. there are screws underneath. easy.

NEXT, The cruise button and the dimmer need to come out. use the smallest flathead you have and pry it between the molding and the button housing. there are 2 prongs on the top and bottom of these housings that bend in and clip when it is installed so you need to work at getting these to bend in to pull the housing out. unplug them.

THEN, there are 4 screws for the black frame housing that covers the plexi, 2 on top and 2 you will find in those openings where you took out the switches. you will need a long philips head to get these out.

THEN,slide the housing over the wheel (put the wheel all the way down).

THEN,to get the gauge cluster out, remove all the screws holding it in, and also remove the steel frame on the top of it. you cant get it out without removing this stupid little frame. there are 3 or 4 plugs on top of the cluster that you need to unplug, and dont worry you dont need to mark them they only fit their respective holes.

NEXT, remove the plexi from the cluster by removing the clips that hold it on. very easy.

THEN.nce the cluster is out and the plexi is off, install the gauges by removing the screws on the old gauges. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE THE NEEDLES, THEY DONT COME OFF... YOU WILL BREAK YOUR NEEDLE ROD CLEAN OFF.

slide the gauge hole over the long part of the needle, then bend the gauge down and slide it over the back of the needle. BE CAREFUL!

VERY IMPORTANT STEP: remove the 4 bulbs in the back of the cluster directly behind the gauges. this is 2 fold. one you dont need these anymore and the lights will have a blue plastic around them that you can use for really neat interior lighting! (wow!) also, these lights might be bright enough to shine thru the new gauges, im not sure, but better safe than sorry! Leave the 2 middle ones so you can see the odometer!!!!!!

there are 2 wires out of the transformer for the indiglos. a power and a ground. but first put everything back except the black housing piece that goes in front of the plexi. make sure your new gauge wires are off to the right and can be pulled through the hole where the dimmer switch goes.

there are 3 wires that run into the back of the dimmer harness. run the power into either red wire (both work) that goes into the back of the dimmer harness, and the black into the black wire on the harness.

put everything back

you rock! i was gonna look for all this later in the day and now i dont have to ! thanks man! obviously i wont have to deal with taking out the cluster itself.. just all the housing and molding parts... so that should go pretty easy.. im a little nervous about the switches and all that , but maybe I can get away without havin to do that -- lets see how it goes! thanks buddy..

no prob dude....taking the switches out is sooo easy, theres always a little like prong connector on the back of everything and somewhere on everyone of them is a tab that you just have to push down then pull, and its off; putting shit back is even easier...if you forgot where it went just trial and error cause every switch probably has a different prong configuration. Know what i mean? Dont worry about taking off the cruise controll switches and shit, its easy man, no need to sweat over it! GOOD LUCK< and get to it...i wanna see how it looks!

You actually will need to take the whole cluster out to install those rings. If you still have your reverse indiglos, you might as well put those in as well and see how it looks.

Good luck, any questions just post here. I've done this a few times.

And lets see those pics!

matchjames! you need to get the cluster OUT man! you dont apply rings to the plexi window! the window is part of the whole cluster...once youve got the cluster out you just dissessemble the cluster and stick em on!
its a big job for a little result, but could turn out REALLY nice!
