Is this normal ???

Everytime i start my CL i hear a buzzing sound for about 5 seconds . The noise is similar to how an automatic car antenna sounds while retracting . I took it to a dealer and the guy told me its normal . The computer that checks my ABS system makes noise while preforming its task ,he assured me that its a normal and a common problem with most CLs .----- I was just wondering if anyone else out here has the same problem ????

Mine does it too. Don't know if I'd call it a "problem" though. Just something it does.

Its your ABS pump. Its actually more of a MMMMOOOOOOooooooooooo sound. Pray to the brake gods that your abs module doesnt go out, because its $1000 for a new one. That seems to be a common problem with hondas.
There is a very good chance that you might suffer from the same problem a lot of cl owners have faced: bad ABS module. something in it goes bad and causes the pump(which is the mooing cow sound heard when the car starts up) to overrun. Once this happens, the system disables until you restart the car and the ABS light will illuminate.

Hi, so other than replacing the ABS module, I have read on another post that you may try and change the batery or verify the pos adn neg connections are not oxidizing. I got my mechanic to run the error code because my ABS light is always on. mechanic said after checking the resistance in the rear abs sensor he said it was a short in the driver side rear abs sensor. Some people on the board have replaced up to 3 of these sensor and they still have the probleme, is there a more complete post about this issue or a post that discribes this probleme in its entirety?

It has nothing to do with the fuel pump, it is def the ABS module and I'm the one whose probably dealt the most with it, since I'm the one you're referring to that replaced 3 WSS's and still get the light from time to time. I will give you a summary write-up. I've replaced 3 wheel speed sensors, both rear calipers, I've also replaced my axle which helped for a while. If it's not a wheel speed sensor causing your ABS light, then it could be from lack of power to the module caused by a loose or coroded battery terminal, also the system could be low on brake fluid this also sometimes triggers a brake warning light to come on. If none of those cause your ABS light to come on, then it is the module (abs pump) itself, I will get to that in a second. Now, the buzzing that you hear when you cold start the car is nothing more than the ABS system's pump/motor priming itself on start up, this does not cause adverse affects and should ONLY be worried about if it buzzes until the ABS light comes on, thus indicating a problem, however the buzzing during warm up is normal and not to worry about. Lack of power, or a bad sensor could cause the ABS system to not prime correctly and continue to charge thus causing the errors. The piece on the module itself that is to blame is usually the rubber O-Rings in the bottom of the module. This is like a $2 part but can break the whole $1000+ module unit, this is the same unit that is in the Integra GSR, I have confirmed this by looking at the part number on my buddy's 2 GSR's and they are the same part. I read this write-up on it that gives more info, and there is a description of what the problem with the module is. I want to replace these at some point too, I just don't like messing with my brake system myself. Let me know if this info helps, since I'm probably one of the biggest experts as far as our ABS system goes due to all the problems that I've listed above

Since you searched this thread, and asked for a detailed write-up I put that in there for ya, however your issue sounds like it's just a WSS so I would start by replacing that before you worry about other issues in your braking system. Hope all the info helps

97BlackAckCL thanks for the quick reply, it's kind of funny because I spoke to my mechanic about what you had been through. A few months ago we ran the codes and found that a driver side rear abs sensor cost approximately 300$, Yeah. So I didn’t replace it and here we are now. I think I will clean my battery terminals and then install a new battery. If that doesn’t work I will hunt down that rear sensor! . ps thanks for the fast reply!

I have been on eBay with no luck of finding any specific cl wheel speed sensor. Perhaps I should be looking for a the 94-97 Accord (F22) or a 98-2002 Accord (F23) wheel speed sensor. Or should I call Honda and see if the part number matches up the same against the above mentioned cars. What do you believe my best option is?

Hi Acuraziners im back!

My ABS light is still on and I really want to solve the probleme. I decided to change the battery and got my mechanic to reset the abs light. it came right back on as I stared rolling.

Does anybody know the part number for the rear abs sensors. - for an acura cl 2.2 97 automatic.

Thanks for your post.

ABS Wheel speed sensors do not calculate your speed. The VSS on the trans does. Having larger wheels would cause your speedo to display a lower speed than you are actually traveling.

Your speedometer has nothing to do with your wheel speed sensors, those are for your abs, the Vehicle Speed Sensor in the transmission controls your speedometer
