Ok so i recently got a used 97 cl 2.2 at 89,990 miles on it. The first day i got it was fine untill recently ive been getting worse and worse noise that comes out that sounds like a timing belt. I am not sure if i need a new timing belt or not but basically when im at a stop i hear the belt at a minimal noise. I pressed on the clutch just a tiny bit and the noise seemed to dissapear then if i let go of the clutch all the way the noise comes back. Now i can hear it everythime im riding and its really annoying me. I opened up my hood and seeped like it was the timing belt because as it spun it was making that same noise. Can anyone with great expertise about cars explain what is causing this noise? I think its the timing belt but i dont understand why when i press on the clutch just a little itty bitty then the sound dissapears. this sound also comes on when im at fourth gear and i have my foot off the gas as i slow down i hear this noise but when i press on the gas it lessens just a little bit.
