no vtec??

ok i think my car is not activating VTEC cause it seems to go smoothly throught all the RPMs, i was messing around and got all the way to redline without it "jumping" RPMs i tried in all gears and got to speed of over 120mph and didnt feel anything like the description of VTEC. i cant really tell what the helll VTEC feels like. is there a way to test it?? other than looking at the RPM and seeying when it jumps??

theres no real "jumping" going on....its more like a pull...you just notice that the rpms seem to scream alot more and the car does pull a bit faster than when on the lower end of the spectrum...but there is no jumpin...no wheel squeel and no NOS feel to it....unfortunetly!

you should be able to hear it engage. i have a 2.2 and i hear it at 4000 and it gets stronger at like 5200 rpm's.
if not go to acura, ur vtec has been retarded(safety feature)

The VTEC on the 2.3 should kick in around 3500-4000 RPMs. I would probably take the car in and have them test drive it. If nothing is wrong with it, they shouldn't charge you....

you're all crazy if you think you can hear or feel the vtec in your f22/f23. I've driven plenty of vtec cars and ours is a different type, because it does not engage at a certain rpm like si's, gsr's, preludes, and rsx's. Theirs all engage at the exact same rpm every time, and it's the most noticable sound ever. Our's just gets continuously lounder, and of course it's going to pull harder at higher rpms! I can't believe you all trying to say it engages at 4xxx or 5xxx. Our vtec is a fucking joke! If you don't understand what I'm saying you haven't driven one of the above cars and you should. You'll be very dissapointed in your own motor, and you might not even think your own engine has vtec.

I did read a thread on honda-acura.com about the f22 motor. It was trying to explain how the vtec is not set at a certain rpm like all the rest of honda motors. It had something to do with fuel economy and basically said that our motor is for pussy's and grandma's.

Simple reason you can't feel it.......SOHC vs DOHC.

blo2ck i know wat you mean around the 5-6k rpms the shit gets real loud, because first it gets loud after 3k because of the intake but than it gets louder when i get near 5=6k, i was just trying to feel it like the integra i rode in where it kicked in like a bitch. but i guess i ownt get that feeling.

on soch motor u wont feel the vtec unless u have a small as honda with vtec, but u might be able to hear it....u should try to test it out by shifting to 2nd from 1st early.....so 2nd gear will start around 2K RPM and just hold the gas down. u should be able to hear a change in speed of the motor at some point.

i thought the difference was sohc vs. dohc too, but even my friends sohc ex civic has a definite change of sound and harder pull at 5,500 rpms. Ours DOES NOT CHANGE! Your imagining it if you think it does. It's totally noticable and everyone on this board would know exactly when it kicked in if it even did.

news flash: our car is sohc and is quite slow when compared to other cars with vtec. Thus when vtec does kick in you will barely feel it, if even that

so sad...but so true

I don't even think about it. All I know is when I drop a gear and floor the gas I can get some RPM's turning and pass people, that is good enough for me.

I bought this car for the luxury and the look, if I wanted speed I would have looked at Integras and Preludes.

uiskibum-well put! Me too, but i still wish it was a little faster. Our cars just look soo much nicer than ludes and accords. ESPECIALLY THE INTERIOR!

about the vafc, i just bought one and our engine isn't listed on the list of motors it comes with. The ones that were included, J30, h22, b16, b18c, d16, and thats about it! It does work for the 3.0's, but think about it, nidejb was the only 2.x to have it on his car, and I think it was only to control his air/fuel. I personally talked with a manager at apexi and he told me not to install it on my car! I sold it for more than i paid so it's all good.

i read somewhere that our cars could keep up with an integra (not necessarily GSRs), is this true?

yes because the integra has 150 hp same as the f23a1 engine in the 2.3 or are you talking about the 3.0.... the 3.0 could pull on the regular integs.

our 2.x with e/i/h can keep up with a stock gsr till 60-70 then he'll pass you. Stock vs. stock he'll kill you.

ls tegs are an easy kill for a bolt on 2.x.

si's are a really close race.

why do people make such a big deal over vtech? you want a kick? use forced induction and shut up about vtech.

Ok, first of all I have driven all of those cars and it is not different type of vtec it is the same "type". The fact is that we have SOHC motors versus DOHC motors. The extra cam in the DOHC makes their vtec much stronger.

Also there is a fuel economy vtec that stock civics below Si's have. I believe it is V1 vtec. IOur vtec is to add a slight performance edge tot he car.

200hp stock right? (3.0) That is pretty good for SOHC. I know the DOHC Integra doesn't even have that much stock. Maybe Acura just didn't see the need for the extra cam since it was pulling so much hp anyway???
