Next Car....

Ok, so i mentioned that my car got hailed on a few weeks back, i have an appointment with an adjuster on friday to asses the dammage. However i talked to my friendly acura tech today and he said that he saw a first gen with less miles than mine get totaled from the same hail storm, he said i was looking at 5-7K in repairs, he told me new hood, trunk lid, and paintless dent on all the fenders and roof. So, i think that they'll total it. If they do i would be looking at getting a new ride, something in the less than 15k catagory, anyone got some bright ideas? I was thinking 240sx with a shitload of miles and doing a sr20det swap, and have some left over to fix up the interior what would you do?

The RB is too heavy...Fucks up the weight ration b/t front and rear. the SR20DET is much better.

i just looked in the paper and found one for 3500

seems like that plus a swap and some bolt ons would be my best bet?

the rsx's are going for a little more than i want to spend, plus theyre really not my style...

I agree with you hobo...get yourself a 240 and slap in an sr20det. I have been wanting to do that for a long time.

edit: get an 89 or a 90 and do an s13 front end conversion

the reason the SR20DET is a better choice is because, there are a bigger stock of them, so they don't go as much, and they have a better pull when you autoX. The rb series engines are more drag engines, and they I believe are less stable and more rare. My friend is gettin a 240sx, and I tell him to do an RB26DETT swap, but he insists of doing SR20DET because he's one of those kinds of people. I heard an SR20DET (friend has it) and it sounds BADASS. Definitely go with the SR20

Yeah and I think the RB engines are heavy...the r32 and r33 skyline engines are heavy, but powerful. Made for dragging. SR20DET has performance at all speeds IMO. Great for autoX'ing!

No potential unless you go FI or nitrous. Its just a maxed out altima/maxima engine. The bolt-ons don't do shit for that car.

Go with a Civic H/B 95-99 and do a B18CRG2 engine swap. Then go all motor with a JR supercharger.

I would definitely not say they are less stable. The RB series engine is one of the strongest engines built. I remember reading somewhere that one has been taken to over 2000hp on the stock block without being blown.

And they are becoming less rare as more people are being aware of the availability, ease, and some of the myths are being dispelled.

Who said anything about making it faster? All you need is a minimal drop and some fat rims and you're set! Theres no need to do anything to that car.

Its slow...Atleast for me. If I'm dropping $32,000+ on a car, it better be fast.

Too many of my friends have beat them down easily (Supra TT **when it was stock**, 2 modded WRXs, etc etc). That would suck to spend that much on a new car just to get beat down by my boys.

From what I understand...

RedTops were in the 89-93 models and the BlackTops were in the 94-98 models.

BlackTops have VVT but are more expensive...

The RedTops are generally cheaper, easier to work with, and have better aftermarket support.

So if you can get a lower milage RedTop, that would be the way to go.

Technically, they're the same.

If you're going with the SR20DET go with the S14 (Blacktops only), it's 220hp and VVT. The S13 Blacktop doesn't have the VVT, neither does the S13 Redtop.

S14 BlackTops also cost twice as much for 15 more HP. The S13 SR20DETs have just as much potential with or without the variable valve timing. Its not worth the price difference.

If you got the money to throw away, go ahead...But its not worth it.

ok... so black top > red top but not worth the money

is this a good price?

http://www.totaljdm.com/index.cfm/fu...dm_engines.htm

and would it be worth it to get

MAF 100$
igniter chip 100$
uncut wiring harness 200$

Here are some prices:

S13 Redtop 2300-2600
S13 Blacktop 2500-3000
S14 Blacktop 3200-3900 for Zenki Clip
S14 Blacktop 3500-4200 for Kouki Clip

S13 comes with a Garrett T25, while the S14 comes with a Garrett T28 Ball-Bearing. So I wouldn't say it costs twice as much as the S13 Redtop, about 700-1200 more depending...

Anyone know why they say the RedTops are easier to work with and provide more aftermarket support? Personally, I thought they were the same in that respect...or is it cause of OBDI Vs OBDII bullshit?

those are the installation and the engine...right??

what 'bout the engines then..?? or are those just engines??

I'm 100% sure I will get 240sx 95 since I can spend around $3~4000 for the car..

well.. I can see some engines on ebay.. are they okay ones??
