new here--painting side skirts??

Hey

New girl here, just got a 97 Acura 3.0 CL premium-taffeta white. I REALLLY want the sideskirts painted white. Is that possible since its plastic? DONT like black sideskirts on the white car. SO can someoen tell me if it is possible to paint them white--a special paint? I was gonna have my cousin do it whos an auto body mechanic at the end of june, :P

Welcome!

It is possible to paint them, but I don't know how!

There are several people on this board who have done so. You may want to use the "search" button at the top right of your screen, and I'll bet you'll find the threads you need. Good Luck!

Welcome to the board.
When painting flexible trim we would put additives into whatever paint we happened to be using. They make special stuff for bumpers, I'd think you'd want the same stuff.
Of course you probably don't have an air compressor and paint gun in your back pocket, so the point is moot. Your cousin should know exactly what to do.

Ok thanks! I hope im making the right decision, my father thinks its a bad idea, he says that painting the sideskirts white is just going to cause me to CLEAN the car more (i practically wash it everyday as it is right now) HELL--i dont care, as long as it looks hot.

Welcome to the board.

You should of bought a '98 or '99 CL that came with the side skirts allready painted

Oh and don't worry about more cleaning or anything like that. I also have a taffeta white CL and my skirts really don't get that dirty.

How much did it run you to get them painted at a shop? I also have a green '97 and I recently decided I wanted to paint over the black trim. Thanks

it is possible to paint them, i have looked into getting it done, but they have to be prepped. otherwise the paint will begin to chip and flake off the back plastic.
