New Cold Air Intake, strange mount

Damn this took a lot longer than I thought it would take but I finally have it installed. Here are the pics for mounting the thing because the crap that came with the kit was exactly that, crap.

One of the stock mounts for the stock intake

After having drilled through it. This is where I stupidly burnt my finger about fried my ear drums, think fingernails on chalkboard x10

Number 1: the strange way of anchoring this to the car. Probably not the best way but it is what I could come up with. I soon found this wasn't enough.
Number 2: that is a steel bar with 2 tack welds to the car. I didn't want it to be permanent.
Number 3: A small peice of rubber to prevent metal on metal contact.

From the underside

I decided there wasn't enough airflow to the filter so I did something some may find dumb. I have yet to determin how dumb it was.

And Finally, The picture says it all:

your check engine light might come on after u restart your ECU (if u ever have to replace or charge your battery)

thats because the picture of the "wtf" is i believe your air sensor..

i believe AEM and Injen and other "official kits" have a slot where u could stick the air sensor into.. (kinda like the stock box)

i noticed the 2.x's have the air sensor.. yet the 3.0's dont.. haha

dont worry tho.. the only time u might need your air sensor is when u get your emissions test.. and as long as your car isnt reading a error code u should be okay

Well I left it unplugged by accident and it didn't hurt anything. So, I don’t know either. Thanks for the hydrolock tip, I figured if I was even in a puddle that big, I was screwed. The wire is just for rocks. Car ran great tonight, even hit a few puddles.

It's not bad man, looks pretty good. Ignore what people said about hydrolocking, it's not like the plastic piece will shield you anymore from hydrolock. I know on my 3.0 if I went through a puddle with my innerfender well on, the water would still get in. Just avoid DEEP puddles, if you have to go through one, pull over and rip the coupling off the TB and put it back on after you go through the puddle. I have a bypass valve, and if I had to go through a 2-3 foot puddle, I'd still remove the intake from the TB just to be sure.

you will find that connector hooks up to a bunch of crap that leads to one vac line on the firewall. rip it all out, tape up the connector and cap the vac line.

peace

Awesome thanks man for the input. I will be on the lookout for deep puddles. The only place I can think of where this would be a problem is the paintball field I work at or a few stretches of road in Corvallis that need replacing. I can just avoid them though.

Update: I took that thing out, car runs fine
I am getting like 1-2 more miles to the gallon, this is awesome, especially because its city!
As for power, I can feel it from 4-5rpms but after 5.5 it dies. I can't redline in 4th anymore, but that is okay, I can get up to 120 a lot quicker (I am a big chicken and don't want to go faster)

My intake came with crappy mounts too. I ended up using zip ties and compressed asbestos insulators. I need to redo it because I charged my filter and lost one of the insulators and now my intake rattles a little when I start the car.
