If you go to the dealer you better hope they cover you if not than they'll rape you.

If you've got something on the seat (even something that appear to be light enough to not trigger the SRS sensor), the passenger airbag will be disables (which is that the SRS light is telling you.

Do a search for airbag light here for more info... Searching for SRS light will return alot of results since the search engine doesn't allow for searching on 3 character strings like SRS.

I had a girl at work w/ an SRS light on, but she needed a battery too. She said they changed the battery and the light went out. Maybe resetting the ECU by disconnecting the battery had something to do with it

Wrong forum... I'll move this to 1st gen CL for you...

My prior post was about 2nd Gen CL SRS light. I'm not sure wtf the deal with the 1st gen CL SRS is....

Shame on you!

Here's how it actually works:

The SRS light should only come on when you start the car and stay on about 5 seconds. If it comes on at any other time, it means all airbags and seatbelt pretensioners are disabled. This could mean the difference between life and death, so please get this fixed ASAP.

What GreenMonster is talking about is the OPDS system (Occupant Position Detection System). It is a matrix of 7 sensors located in the passenger seat. It monitors the position and weight of the passenger to determine whether or not the seat-mounted side airbag could injure an occupant (if they were resting in the path, or too light). It ONLY controls the seat-mounted side airbag, however. The light for this is yellow, not red, and reads "SIDE AIRBAG OFF". It is located in the lower right of the dash. This light will come on when you have a passenger out of position, and can also be triggered by something light sitting in the seat (purse, backpack, groceries, etc). But it will go out immediately when the object is removed or the passenger sits upright again.

Note: Even if the "SIDE AIRBAG OFF" light is on, the dash-mounted front airbag will still deploy.

Note: The "SRS" light, again, means that NONE of the airbags will deploy.

Well, anyone who needs a really good tutorial of Gen2 CL SRS and OPDS systems, please read this thread.

One thing still applies, though, even for the Gen1 - The airbags are disabled if the SRS light is on.

My SRS light has been on for about 30K miles now. It was NOT covered under my extended warranty. The dealer wanted over $500 (mostly labor) to fix it so I said OK, I'll pay. After 2 months of phone calls and they never got the part in, I gave up trying to get them to fix it.

They could not tell me if in fact my airbags would work in a crash or not. Silly that the warranty covered replacing my mirror when it quit dimming, but not the most important safety feature on the car.

I rolled over 100K last week in the CL and I'm looking to trade. I think I got the wifey talked into one of those new Roush Mustangs.. Got my fingers crossed.
