Need Help removing front Hub for Rotor Installation

Hi,
I have a 1997 CL 2.2 and right now I am very frustrated with the front brakes. I have been trying to replace the front rotors and for some reason the Hub would not come off. On this model the hub needs to be removed for the rotors to be replaced. I saw some people had mentiond a tool that can be rented to remove the hub. Could anyone please give me the tool name so that I can rent it from Auto Zone tomorrow? Or if anyone could shed some more light on this I would be really gratefull. THANKS.

welcome to our hell
our front brakes suck

you need to remove the whole knuckle and a-arm, and it's not too easy
i paid to have the front rotors removed and new ones installed
then i changed the rears and all the pads

You can get a hub puller which will keep you from splitting the knuckle.

I just don't know where to rent one.

I had mine done at my buddy's shop. He was very irate with me cause it took him about 4 hours (for all 4 brakes) and he knew he had to give me a discount. It's not too difficult, just time consuming.

Don't get frustrated and start banging away at the hub though.

Thanks. The Only problem is that the rotor is behind the hub and I really don't want to break the rotor in this process (Just in case I need to put everything back and take it to a shop.

Yeah for some reason they made our rotors very hard and time consuming to change. Good luck on the install and keep us updated! If you have a digicam nearby, snap some pictures of the install so that you can help future installers

note that our rotor are pressed on and you need to take off the arm to take off the rotor cause i had mine done last month and they had to send my rotor out to be repressed at a machine shop.

Now I am nervous about this break job. Which arm needs to be taken off? Are you sure that only machine shop can press the rotors back on the axle? Did they have to send the car to the machine shop or just some parts? Please give me some more info. THANKS.

I just had my front rotors and brake pads replaced. The job took about 1.5 hours. He had a problem with the bearing on the passenger side. I dont know exactly what he did but he made it seem easy. He made it seem so easy I complained about the price he charged. But I realize now its no easy task. good luck.

Once the hub has been pulled, the rotor comes right off. It's the hub that causes the problems on the '97's.

The hub will come off without the need to split the knuckle, but you need the hub puller in order to get it done right.

OK Folks. I have finally given up. I rented the Hub Puller from auto zone. When I tried to remove the hub the axle started sliding back but the hub did not even move an inch. I really don't want to damage anything in there so I will probably take it to a professional to get the rotors installed. Thanks for eveyones help.
