Need help on 2.3 Fuel Filter
Need help on 2.3 Fuel Filter
ok, I bought my fuel filter to replace and since it hasn't been replaced in over 80k miles (yeah sorry) and I'm not much of a mechanic but if anyone can help me out with some instructions on what to do first so I wont spill gas all over the palce, I would really appreciate it. THankz
ur gonna get gas everywhere. just make sure the car is cold, not too much will come out. just maybee like 1/4 cup or so. looks like more cause it spreads fast. leave the middle strap tight take two wrenches and take off the top b-nut, as soon as it comes off cas will start coming out. remember its not as much as it looks. then remove the bottom nut, (it maybee a clip, just squeeze the two sides togather and it should pop off.) then loosten up the strap, and remove the filter. put in the new filter in the reverse order. then when u go to start it make sure u trun the key just to where all the warning lights come on, and wait like 10 seconds. turn it off then do it again. then start it. it may spudder alittle but it will be ok. while its running check the filter and make sure its not leaking anywhere. then ur done.
anything extra?
is there anything else I should know about?? some people have told me to take off the neg from the battery and to take off my cap from the fuel tank. Also I was told to unclip a switch from the bottom of the passengers seat.. i've looked around and found a little black box but nothing I can take off. if there is anything extra please let me know as I will be trying it tomorrow. Thankz for all the help.
disconnect the battery, but besides that theres nothing else. make sure u have a rag ready for the fuel that does leak out. and make sure again that the car is cold. like do it before u start the car for the day. its pretty easy.

Based on my mechanic shaking his head at me after this job and the $45 of labour I paid there's no way I'd attempt this myself. He said the tech cut himself in numerous places and that the part was in a very awkward position. I don't mess around when fuel is involved.. I did notice after filter replacement at 62,000 miles that a small hesitation at 5,000 rpm went away.

i have a 3.0 and did mine myself last year. only thing to make sure is that your car's cold and you have some rags handly to soak up the gas. i also lock a small vasegirp on the fuel line. that helped reduce the leaking gas.
didn't take too long but it is kinda arkward since i have to lean all the way into the back of the engine bay. and after like 1 hr, my back hurts like a bitch.

I would assume the 2.3 is basically the same as the 2.2... If you're looking at the motor from the front of the car, it's towards the back left near the fuel rail... I don't remember it being difficult but i was able to put a little plastic cup under it to catch most of the gas...
come on guys,
what you need to do is (under the hood) pull the fuel pump fuse, and let the car die. Then try to turn the car on a few times. THIS WAY, it will release all the pressure out of the lines, and you wont have nearly as much gas spillage. Just put the fuse back when you're done.
I cant believe no one has done this.
PS-
80,000 isn't bad for the filter. We have 100,000 mile filters.

if u let the car die on its own pulling the fuse u could cause the car to vapor lock. then u will need to prime the injectors, which usually needs to be done by someone who knows what thier doing. DO NOT LET YOUR CAR DIE ON ITS OWN BY PULLING THE FUSE.
HA HA!!! FINALLY GOT THAT SOB OUT!!!! after an hour and a half, with two people (one holding one wrench on top and the other holding another on the bottom of the car) I finally got that fuel filter out. Thanks for all of your posts
