Is it my tranny's turn to go?!?

1997 3.0 86K miles. Two times now I have started my car quickly and took off out of the driveway. Reverse was fine then I go to put it in D and it kind of slips around a bit. Like it stays in 1st and shifts hard to 2nd?? Something like that, bottom line is it doesnt shift right. Here's the kicker though...It only does it for a short time until the car is warmed up.
Then I have no problems. Drives fine as usual after that.

So I guess what Im asking is, has this happened to anyone before there tranny went? What can I expect, and what should I do? Dont want to be stranded somewhere. How much time do I have left before it finally goes?

Should I replace it, or buy a new toy when it crashes?

It all depends on how you drive it. That is certainly a sign thats it wants to die, but if you drive it in a decent manner it'll still have 15-20k on it. But if you romp it at all and race around and whatnot it'll die as soon as you want it too
