And my project begins :D

So today I started the one of the 1st steps i'll need to do in order to finish my lcd mounting! The pics aren't much as of now and I know the job looks sloppy, but I haven't sanded it down at all right now so

Anyways right now I just have the lcd frame mounted inside the trim that goes around the stock radio. I am Bondo filler before I actually fiberglass it together. I'll keep updates throughout of what I have done. I'm hoping to get maybe 1 layer of fiberglass tomorrow, if not I should def. have updates on Tuesday!

I'll try to post a picture tomorrow of what I have done so far to it. I have a big test tomorrow so I haven't gotten much done to it since I started, but it looks better. I have a special idea that if it works out (which I will make it work! haha) you guys will be excited to see..

I also discovered that sanding with my dremel > sanding by hand.. although i discovered this the next day after i sanded down both sides of the bondo area that didn't need to be there!

on a smaller project like that though its almost better to sand down with you hand because you can feel exactly how much you sanding off...dremel usually your gonna have high and low spots.

Yeah I know what you mean, but for instance on the trim there is bondo there and it shouldn't be there.. I just did a sloppy job applying it. Now it took me roughly 30 minutes to sand it by hand (i think my sanding block was at the end of its life though). With the dremel though I could take away the top layers of it instantly then sand the last little bit by hand. But in between the areas where the bondo is supposed to be I am sanding by hand

This is what I have done so far since the first pictures.. nothing much, but I pretty much have all the spaces filled. I just need to apply some bondo on the bottom because there is a little gap between the trim and the space it goes in. I know I'll def. have it done tomorrow, but I might try to do it later tonight when I get off work.

I really don't need one.. the dremel is perfect for what I need to do.. I just haven't spent time to the details yet on the sanding part of it

Here are some pics of my old lilliput molded into the bezel.
I still have the bezel if anyone wants it. its customized for a xenarc screen which is slightly bigger than the lilli. pm me if interested. Just needs to be sanded and painted.

BTW, you are gonna be better off using a sanding block and some coarse grit paper rather than a dremel. The dremel always digs in to far and you end up having to re-fill it over and over. Go to www.mp3car.com and hit up the fabrication forum for lots of good tips.

I appreciate the advice, but you must of misunderstood what I said. I only used the dremel to get the excess away that was not needed. It was there because I did a sloppy job. I have been using sanding blocks, which work quite well to make the actual areas where the bondo is needed very smooth. I have a pretty good idea of what I am doing, I just don't have a lot of free time at the moment or it would be ready to be fiberglassed..

Fiberglass Started!

Well I put on my first layer of fiberglass today before going to see a movie.. I was a bit nervous this being my first time ever doing it, but it wasn't that bad. I'm sorry that there is still excess left around the edge.. my dremel bit broke, and it was my last one. I need to go buy some new ones, but all is good. I'm very impressed with fiberglass. I just need to apply some layers to the top part, sand it all down then apply probably one more layer.

well my g/f is out of town so I don't have her camera to take some pics. I do have the fiberglassing on the bezel completely done! I am going to trim the fiberglass up and then sand down the bezel to get a smooth finish on the surface. If this doesn't take too long then tomorrow I will also start 2 side projects that incorportate fiberglass also. I will definitely have pictures up on Sunday night once my g/f gets back. I'm really excited to show everyone my work!
