Good evening all...

I finally had to remove my friends CAI to install an SRI off ebay.
I added to it a "GREEN (Brand Name)" filter that cost me a hefty $95.

Just a few questions about noise:
very close to the SRI-Engine connection, there is a very bothering noise when i stick my ear close to it! Normal?

I didn't have to reset my ECU though.

Apart from that, as usual, a nice little whistle on accelerations, and the little extra umph on RPM ranging from 1800 to 3500.

Your pictures?

P.S. did any of you paint the heat shield here? I saw a thread about it, but no DIY. Any color you guys think would look good. My heat shield look kind of shitty...

I think I got really ripped off.
I went to an auto performance parts store. They had K&N filters and Green filters. All the sales people told me to go for Green. Apparently, k&N filters contain some oil (to optimize filtering) but can cause damage to the whole intake system and make the ECU nuts. Apparently Green filters last longer, have higher air flow capcities, etc.
So I payed $80 for the Green. The K&N was selling for $60. The metal intake pipe cost me $15 including shipping.
Good deal? Ripped off??

you definitly got ripped off, AEM uses k&n filters, do you think its bad for your engine when aem is one of the biggest intake suppliers. and the green one looks really cheap and cheesey.

Fuck... I got buttrammed.
And, yeah, doesn't look as nice as a K&N filter. I'll just paint the filter red !

About the noise of an SRI on 2.3s. It's a small little whissle. Very small. At first, I thought something was wrong with the car.

Return a used filter??
Is that possible? What reason should I give the shop?
I'm trying this tomorrow and will get a K&N filter.

About the little nipple-hole though? Should I cover it? What is it for?

i would bitch at them for trying suckering you into buying it, its only been a day i dont see why you cant return it if it looks unused and you still have the box.

i attached the little nipple thing at the end to the one little box that was part of the stock intake near the battery on the bottom, there is a little hose that goes up that way

I left the little nipple unatended. No hose going to it. Is it ok like that?

oil-less cone filters allow like 5 times more silica into your engine, which is basically putting sand into your motor.

thats why people replace the crappy oil-less filters that come with ebay intakes for oiled k&n, so that you dont go screwing up your engine. and there are many who argue that k&n filters right outta the box dont have the proper amount of oil on them and should be oiled up using a recharge kit from the get go, but thats being a lil extreme in my opinion.

lets see pix of this so called nipple, my intake only had one "nipple" and thats where that lil hose connected to the top of the valve cover. youre saying yours has an extra one right?

what is that hose you connected to it? is it 97 specific or what, cuz when i pulled out the stock intake i didnt see any other hoses attached to it (unless theres one plugged into the stock resonator lol cuz since i got a sri i didnt see the point in removing it.)

lol wait, i have that same box with that same hose going to it. are you telling me that if i trace that hose it should probably just be dangling cuz it was originally plugged into my stock intake?

go buy a vacuum cap to stick on the little "nipple" thing. I dont think that little black box does anything important.
