My H22 Writeup

I finally got it started and i want to explode because of all the information. Ill try to make this DIYish, but honestly if your like me, and dont have much mecanical inclination have a shop do it.

THis writeup is for parts and prices for:

99 Acura 2.3 CL (also for a 98)
Using a JDM H22a OBD1

Parts Needed:
JDM H22a w/ distributor model #TD60 its an internal coil btw
P13 Ecu (a chipped p28 or p72 will work great. if u use the p28 u wont use your egr and u cant control your IAB. but the advantage is you can tune your car.)
OBD2 B to OBD 1 Jumper harness (i have 2 extras $40 & $60 shipped each, PM me..)
Prelude Drivers side Motor Mount
H22 Header
97+ Prelude throttle cable ( i have 1 extra $15 shipped )
97+ Prelude Power steering bracket (the bracket that holds the PS pump to the block)
AC belt, PS Belt both need to be longer by 2-3 inches

What makes our swap harder than 94-97 Accords..
OK our CL distributors are what is called a 'single pickup' this means that sensors are in the engine send information to our ECU's and data is sent with 1 wire to the distributor. Now the H22 doesnt operate this way, each sensor (3 total 2 colors each) so i had to wire 9 wires from my ECU (actually the jumper harness, see the links for the colors and sensors) directly to the dizzy. THat was the hardest part because im not too good with that shit.
Also i think Beaneg6 used the F23 throttle body to plug in the MAP sensor easily..
Another way around this is to use the engine harness that comes with your motor and use all prelude electrical parts.

Also see these links for the other wires that need to be extended, wiring info and other stuff:
http://www.accordinglydone.com/forum...hread.php?t=29
http://importnut.net/h22a_swap.htm
------------------------------------------------------------------

Prices:
I got a JDM H22a ($950) and i used my stock F23 manual tranny.. (i know flame me for it.. but i want my freeway top speed, and i saved $500 bux)
Bought a new clutch $100 (i didnt buy it ahead of time, stupid me)
Chipped P28 with OBD2 B to OBD1 jumper harness ($275)
Prelude Motor Mount $100 (again buy ahead of time to save $50)
Ebay Header $65
Throttle Cable $12
PS Bracket $20
Belts $18
Oil n filter $20
Coolant $5
Wires n Solder $10

I paid Beaneg6 $500 to install the motor and R1 Motors in San Gabriel $120 to wire up my Dizzy, Injectors, vtec crap. Also u need another $40 to weld up your mid pipe.
If you dont want to worry about a lot of this stuff R 1 Motors charges around $1100 to 1300 for labor and misc crap. talk to Raymond, he is a smart mutherfuker. If you have more detailed questions Beaneg6 can help and i can try. Im not sure if he wants to do anymore after the Dizzy mess i went through.

My final thought......

I GOT DOHC POWER BISHES!!!!

Good info- makes me feel like the swap is very doable.

Thanks for the DIY. Maybe it will help the daily posters of people with H22 swap questions out some and save a few repeat thread questions

yea the car fired up last night, i was crying tears of joy.. Bean's friend wired up the car almost fine, but i think he had maybe 1 wire wrong on the distributor.

Kevin, i bought a prelude shifter last year, i love thats thing so much..

And pictures will be up tonight when i get my mid pipe welded..

And JR u can drive it this weekend..

THanks Chris , n Chris, kevin, and Euro R Cl, and Supramanag for replying to my PM's and Phone calls.. and Jay thnx for driving me to norwalk a bunch of times..

i dont blame you at all for using the F23 transmission. just let us know how it performs, because i would consider using my F22 or F23 transmission if i ever do a H22 or G23 swap.

yea i dont think that shaving .1 or .2 of my 1/4 mile time is that important to me, i needed a new engine because my F23 was burning a quart of oil a week. So i paid a little extra for a quicker car..

well i would opt to keep the F trannsmission for better gas mileage. i hate how H22 transmission is geared. in my friends prelude were like at almost 4g's at like 80.

H22's get decent gas mileage but if you get on them, its gonna cost you at the pump.

what exhaust set-up are you gonna run.

Sweet deal daniel... man I just thought about it.. If I got a 2.x back 2 years ago, with all of the $$$ ive spent on fixing crap on this 3.0.. I coulda easily done a h22 swap by now

Are you still going to use the magnamuff exhaust for now?

Sucks to hear about the problems already. Nice to hear that it's up and running though. What code is being thrown?

maybe the CEL is due to the smog/emissions stuff... thats what happened when i switched to my USDM p13. CEL due to o2 sensors/smog/emissions and my Vtec didn't work... but everything works fine on my JDM p13. I know... this prolly doesn't help. but Good luck! let raymond check it out maybe.

i chipped my P28 not to have the emmisions crap affect the performance.

I think it because we used the wrong header gasget and all the fumes are coming out of
the head directly.

Oh and last night it was running great, but whe i parked it my fuel injectors were spraying all over the place.. so i think thats why vtec is acting funny.. so i guess good news.. lol
