my bose piece of crap CD player is busted

it 1st started making some funny noises while playing my CD.. then after 10 mins or so it stopped working all together ... and the display shows ER 01 or something like that... tried bunch of other CDs and none of them worked..

possible that the laser head is dirty? or it's time for a new deck?

i've never tried installing a deck before.. is it hard?

bose is a pain in the ass to do an aftermarket install on, but that's just my opinion. that same thing happened to mine, i just got a new head unit.

Are the speakers for a '98 2.3 CL Bose? I know the newer CL's are, but I don't know about mine.

The speakers for my 97 CL 3.0 are BOSE so I would assume so.

look into the back window and see if they say BOSE on the speaker covers. if they don't, then check on the bottom of the magnet; my speakers have BOSE written on 'em. Hope this helps.

A 98 2.3 does not have bose speakers in them. If you really look at them, you will see some of the worst quality speakers you have ever seen.. Unless you could get it as an option.. Normally it was standard in the 3.0's.

P-EO ?

Whats up with my Bose CD player?

My CD player says P-EO (or something) when I insert a CD in it.
This message is not in the Owners Manual. Atleast my CD changer works fine. Does anyone have any info on this or had this problem?

nah, it wasnt covered under warranty as my car is a 97 and the warranty expired a long time ago... though i dont see any reason why warranty wouldnt cover it...
my cd player died about 6 months ago... i ended up payin a local stereo shop to fix. 45 dollars for parts, and 85 dollars for labor. took a week for the ordered parts to come in, and the repair was completed in a day.
i originally didnt want to have to deal with troubleshooting, and problem solving involved in diagnosing the problem... but now i regret having them do it, as it's a pretty simple task replacing the motor, and it set me back another $85.

one thing i forgot to mention was that my car is a 2.2 with the non-Bose deck... i think the Bose deck should have the same components, but i cant be 100% sure, so dont take my word for it... i went through my old receipts to try to find any parts numbers, but none were listed. the part in question is the "CD Spin Motor".. hopefully that should help.. like i said earlier, it's not too hard to replace if you know what you're doing... as for the bay area meet, sure, i'll check it out glad i could be of some help

If you have a Bose system it will be much cheaper to fix the CD player than replacing stuff. I believe if if you replace the whole system( speakers and amp) if you replace the Bose head unit with a non-Bose head unit. In SoCal International Auto Radio fixed my in 1 week(needed special order part) and removed and installed it for $200.

Good Luck!
