My 3.0 is F*CKED!

Well Thursday my cheap intake off ebay came in...i installed it the same day and it work...car drove even better than before. On Saturday it started to feel like it was choking when i'm slowing down...Saturday morning the car was reving on its own, the check engine light came on, motors shaking and you can hear the intake sucking and droping....well i check everything i could....changed out the spark plugs, spray the throttle...after all that....it acutally got better but...not normal yet. it idle at 1500rpm and jump up and down a lil bit. Well i took it to the shop and diag computer said it was 2 of the O2 sensor....said that the ECU program and the data output ?=T was messed up. Idle sensor and stuff....well he told me to leave the car there so he look at it more before we install 2 new sensor at around $250 a piece (is that right) and turn out to be the ECU.

I dont think it was the intake that fucked up the car i think after i put on the intake i was driving hard. But any ya know what's going on with my car? Also if it is the 02 senors would anybody that's parting their 3.0 help me out.

oh yeah i put the stock intake back on and it was still doing the same thing. the car isn't burning any smoke. rightnow i can drive it....but because it idle at 1500 i have to hold the brake a lil bit harder and when i let go o fthe brake it take off a lil faster....and sometime it feel like its choking when driving normal (slow)

Maybe the intake was throwing off the computer's air/fuel mix?

Could be - ECUs usually adjust to mix changes gradually, not instantly. For example, my friend moved to Colorado and his car was sluggish and felt like it was going to stall for almost a month. Then it got back to its normal self.
Have you tried disconnecting the battery like Hydro said? It might be worth a try.

The ECU could be fine if you lost two oxygen sensors. I had an old Saab that would rev and drop on its own when the oxygen sensor went. Idle was all messed up too. See if you can find one on-line (ie not at the dealer) - they usually just snap in - and take it to a mechanic or read up and do it yourself.

JB-Mine does the same shit every so often, but not constantly. It seems when I am driving hard, it doesn't want to settle down (revs on its own at idle, shifting gets screwy). It comes and goes on this end. I don't have a solution for ya, just wanted to let you know your not alone. Anyone else have this prob?

did you plug everything back in? you could have missed plugging back in the O2 sensor plug I forgot to do that. And they symtoms sound similar. The burning rubber smell I have that too I was thinking it was my new tires since I didn't get an alignment, and my steering wheel shakes at 70mph. then again it might be the different series tire less rubber 40 instead of 55 like stock. but... maybe it is my belts hope not (cross fingers) to expensive.

nah its not the belt...and the timing is right...all the sensors are plug in right....he said its the O2 sensors from the exhaust not the throttle. My mechanic just call and told me he's gonna order the idle sensor and try to reboot the ECU and see if that will fix it...cuz its rare for 2 sensor to go out at the same time.

did you forget to put in one of the plugs right on top of the intake? check to make sure ALL The plugs are in

i forgot to put 1 plug in (mayb 02 sensor plug or something like that) but its right on top of the place where the intake connects to the engine, and the rpms pretty much went crazy

i was so scared, until i realized i forgot to put the stupid plug in lol

did it run fine when you first put the new intake on? if it did then its probibally the o2 sensors. you can do them your self. they are like $70 at autozone. you can change them hour self. they are like a really tight sparkplug. infact theres a socet you can buy for 10$ and it will be a snap. unless you want to take it to the dealer.

or have someone ohm out your iac (idle air control valve), and tps (throttle position sensor). on your throttle body.

Intake won't mess up my car like this....it was the driving after i got the intake that messed up my car....they're replacing my idle control today hoping that it will fit it. All the plug are plugged in....the print out say its the 02 sensor on the exhaust...its reading zero....but he said it rearly that both 02 sensor goes out at the same time...so it might just be the computer. he's gonna change out the idle control and reprogram the computer and see if that'll fix it.

OK, the rough idle could be due to one of the vacum lines from the intake being improperly connected. Did you def make sure that they are tight on the intake and the connections to the engine? A shaky idle is a VERY common problem from incorrect vacum. The o2 sensor just screws into the cat, and is easy to change out, you can def do it. Reprogramming the ECU is bs, he is probably just going to reset it. Like someone said, get a free diagnostic from autozone, and see what that says. As for the bad smell, that could be associated with a bad catalytic converter, and that is where your o2 sensor is located.
Hope this helps
BTW, pray its not the ECU, that costs lots of money for a new one, install is cheap though.
