Motor mount question

I got a 97 2.2 and when i shift i hear a clunk which sounds like the motor rocking and i believe it is the motor mount. I replaced the front mount this morning and it is better but i still hear it. So should i replace the rear mount next or the tranny mount? which one is more likely to be moving when i shift? Let me know

Could be a tranny mount or the other engine mount

Mine clunks even when the car is warm and everything. Im thinking about doin the rear this week and seeing about that. I gotta get under and look at it but im not sure. Its real annoying tho. I dont want to go beat on it yet... but i have! I guess i will get under the car and look tomorrow and see if i can tell whether it is the rear or not.. Is there only one tranny mount by the intake area?

Oh so that's what it is? My car also 'clunks' when put into gear first thing in the morning.
...I thought it was the tranny going..

i could do that... The front is easy and i followed ayougo's diy i believe it was for the most part. only difference was that he did inserts i did the whole thing. I could do a diy if people want it...

This shouldnt be hard considering i work on cars all day already so im not going to panic about a motor mount! The front took me about hour and half not going fast. I will write a DIY on the rear mount when i do it!

well took a look under the car yesterday and it turns out we have a solid metal bar for a rear mount.. At least thats what it looked like. So i talked to the Acura guy at our work and he said it isnt that most likely. He said it has to do with some pivot point in the suspension. Im gonna have it look at it tonight and help me figure out what it is. SO it isnt the motor mount. Ima replace what he shows me and if thats it then we found the clunk!

I had the same problem on my 97 2.2 CL. Replaced the front moter mount which took care of the majority of the problem. Through trial and error I found the front right supension was causing the noise. Intentionally run each wheel up a rounded curb to test this. The bar that connects right front wheel setup to the front part of the frame was loose. I tightened it up and there was no more sound. However it does come loose again after about a month. I have been to lazy to find a long term solution.

Sorry for my lack of car terms.

im pretty sure you dont have a solid motor mount for the rear. i think its pneumatic, atleast it is on the 3.0.. it does have rubber tho.. theres also a tranny mount that could be bad. and the tranny mounts are very common cause of thier flimsy design.

As I said earlier I do not know car terms...The loose bar I am talking about goes through the front part of the frame, horizontal to the ground. To access the loose nut you need to take the plactic sheeting off. Let me know if you find a way to lock it down permenatly.

I had it on a lift and it is solid metal... Thats what i saw i could be wrong but thats what i saw..

No i actually work at a GM dealership as an apprentice helping with the jobs... I have done everything from motor swaps to oil changes... Rear suspension to front suspension.. Not a jiffy lube..

I know what your talking about and its not that.. Im starting to think it is a CV joint going bad.. The inner one that is. THe way it clunks sounds like one.. We will see tho.

Could be a ball joint as well, if your car is a 97, there was a recall on the ball joints. Sounds more like a cv joint, but something to keep in mind if you don't fix the problem.
