Mileage question
Mileage question
Let's just say, if I knew a guy that figured out how to turn off the odometer in his acura, what are the legal repercussions for using it or selling the item and directions for using it.
Here you go, i came across this while preparing for a different case...
Basically, if you tamper with the odometer, you can be fined $50,000 and/or imprison for three years. Pretty severe for a little bit of money from selling a "lower milage" car...
Title 15, United States Code, Section 1984, provides in pertinent part as follows:
No person shall disconnect, reset, or alter or cause tobe disconnected, reset, or altered, the odometer of any motorvehicle with intent to change the number of miles indicatedthereon.
Title 15, United States Code, Section 1990c provides that one who knowingly and willfully violates the above provision "shall be fined not more than $50,000 or imprisoned not more than three years, or both."
