mechanical problems?

Hey wassup all,

The other day I noticed when I started the car it made a humming sound its a distinct sound that can be heard over the engine. Its really loud from inside the car, I guess because the sound travels through the firewall. When I put the car into drive the sound got louder. Then, the moment I started to accelerate it sounded like the pitch was getting higher, then I guess it muffled out after I picked up speed. But, it would come back at idle. Does anyone have any idea what the hell I'm talking about?

could also be a header leak, but i would think that that would get louder as you accelerate.
