Making Cuts
Making Cuts
I know ive tried getting responses before, but I'll give it another shot. My automatic shifter is like 3 feet tall, I wanna give it a chop so it sits underneath my head unit (its a double din, just check my WWW). Anyways I thought about just giving it to a shop to do, but noone wants to touch it because its too much liability. Ive seen a couple of guys on here that look like theyve brought their shifters down, like d5c5b and 97Acura3.0CL, im just trying to get in contact with anyone that knows anything on this. If i sound like im begging, i fuckin am, I am on my knees wanting to know about cutting this bitch. HOOK A BROTHA UP. anyways, my aim is adamfoldes, any help would be greatly appreciated.
wow, just the answer i was looking for, the stock shifter sucks, and even that is high. plus its not the height of the shifter, because its actually shorter then the stock, but the depth kills it, plus the fact that acura manufactured a four foot shift rod
well, all I can tell you is to be VERY careful and cut down the rod, and use some threaders to put threads on teh cut down pipe if necesary. I'm guessing it's just a wire in there that is beingpulled on by the button, so just clip that wire, adn reattach it to teh button.that's all I can tell you, but be VERY carefull because there are probably electrical wires in there that enable/disable the button when you put on the break, just use a pipe cutter type thing... that's all I can think you could do.
Edit: on second thought the thing that enables/disables the button it probablyin the base of the shifter mechanism... it's probably just something that holds the wire taught.. or I could be all wrong and the whole shifter assembly is completely melectronic, adn not mechanical in any respect, but I seriously doubt that.

Im not sure if its that complex, the part inside the lever (the shift rod) is just that I think a rod, i dont think its a hollow rod, just a steel pole that connects to a spring. No threading is necessary since the shift knob connects using three side screws. If im wrong on this let me know because that shift rod is the only thing that scares me to fuck around with. Thanks for the input
yeah, I just unscrewed it, and it looks like you could probably just cut down that pipe, but thne you would have to file down the tip of the rod in there to have the angle like it does currently, otherwise the button coulnd't be depressed as easily. I suggest just going to an acura dealership, and asking them what's inside the shift rod. of course, keep in mind that if you cut it down you would also have to drill two more holes for the screws since the knob would go down the rod further, adn I think those would require rethreading.

Yeah I think the angle might be tricky to do, I went to an acura dealer yesterday and they are clueless, the guy i talked to in parts said it prob is just a solid rod. Fortunately, I do not use the holes that are in there right now so i dont think i have to worry about threading anything. The shifter that i bought has 3 little hex screws to tighten it on and then there is a trim cap that screws on to cover the screws. its just a matter of working up the balls. I wish i could just get some input from someone thats done this before, I mean take a look at "97Acura3.0CL" his shit is down to the gate, if any of you talk to him on a regular basis, let him know his brain is needed. Thanks for all the input
