Locating Tranny Computer?
Can someone tell me where it's located. My tranny is F up and I was told that I need to change the computer along with the tranny, Used of course. I 'm not paying 3 to 4 grand for that I'll trade her in and get sometime else but you got to admit that the 1st Gen CL are in a class by themselves in which no other car can match. Thanks.

I can't tell you where exactly the tranny computer is, but when I got my used tranny put in it wasn't working with my original computer, which was supposedly fine. I called the place I got the tranny from and they sent me the computer that went with the tranny for free. Whole thing (without labor) cost me $950 with 48K miles on it, but no warranty . Just FYI - the trannies may need to be matched with the computer...

If I remember correctly, it's under the carpet, on the passenger's side of the car, near where your feet rest (under the dash).
Our '97s have a seperate ECM (engine control module) and TCM (transmission control module). The TCM is the smaller of the 2 units.
Fotki.com is down, or I'd link you to a pic.

The labor was about $500, but that was at AAMCO which has a flat rate of $400 to rip it apart and see what the problem was, plus another $100 or so for a couple of extra hours. Another shop quoted me around $400 to pull the old off and put the new one on without ripping the old one apart, but I was already in with AAMCO for $400...
The whole thing cost me $1500, which isn't too bad considering most used trannies I've seen are at least $1200. To rebuild it everybody wanted about $2500....

That's all I got for a warranty too. Seems to be holding up so far though... but I'm still not sure I trust it 100%, just because it is a regular old Acura 3.0 CL transmission with 48K miles on it

What caused your tranny to go, as for me I was trying to speed up from a person tailgating the shit out of me. I accelerated pretty hard and it redline then all of a sudden as I'm pressing down on the gas pedal it's going like 5500 rpm and the car slowly moving. Now as I accelerate it goes to like 5000 Rpm then catches gear with a hard thump. SUCKS......Probably burnt out a clutch or two. When I shit from 1 to 2 (automatic) It makes a very loud thump.
