looks pretty cool i guess...i just went to circuit city this week and priced out a Code Alarm,
remote start unit and it came out to be $403 insatalled. with a lifetime warranty
it'll be about $200 installation at a shop unless you got the hookup. i wouldn't mess with it
since i've never heard of Steel Mate alarms

I would only trust DEI products, not some knock-off ebay bullshit product. Trust me, you'll hate yourself for getting one of those. Our shop stopped carrying Black Widow alarms beacuse they kept on frying themselves (NOT INSTALLER ERROR). We now only carry DEI (Viper, Avital, Clifford). It's worth the extra money. What's pictured above is my Clifford 3.5 which is remote start, keyless entry, and alarm. We now carry the Viper 791XV which is essentially the same alarm, just with a blue face and not a carbon fiber face.

nippon - the reason why they charged you that much is because the compustar alarms are so frickin hard to install. There's a million wires to hook up. The reason why is because the compustar alarm is pretty much 20 relays built into one. However, they're not wired up to be universal wiring, such as a DEI alarm. When wiring up a relay, there's typically 4 wires (sometimes 5, depending on what you're trying to do) that need to be hooked up somewhere. So pretty much, thing of 4 wires x about 20 relays.
Now, for a DEI alarm, the relays are already wired up correctly for you, which is going to be 50 times faster than a compustar. There's about 20 wires in total that need to be hooked up, depending on the features that you want and what the car needs.
The whole reason why Compustar made a name for itself is because they were really the first ones to come out with a 2 way pager alarm. DEI pretty much took their design and made it 50 times better. Not only that, but Compustar alarms always had problems with them, either due to installer error or just poor design. Most of the time due to poor design.

why the unhappy face man? you lucked out - you've got a 791XV - that's a great alarm. There's so many things that you can do with that thing. Did you know there's a tilt sensor (stop theives from stealing your wheels), and even a GPS feature that you can lock, unlock, and remote start your car by just signing in online?

Does anybody konw where to find the model # for the alrarm system. I bought my CL not so long ago and I found on the battery cover that says "Equipped with Viper remote start system". But I was never told that it had it nor given a remote for it. I looks like there are extra wirings still intact. I found couple of places that sells the remote with programing instruction but I need the model # of my system... Any ideas?
