LC Newbie looking for advice

Hello,
I am considering buying a CL 4 banger to drive back and forth to work. Looking at a 97 thru 99.

Can someone clue me in on what to watchout for and any other tips for buying a used CL? What type of expensive maintenance items might I be looking at.
And, what is the difference between the 2.2 and 2.3?

Thanks

no real difference between 2.2 and 2.3. same thing. depending upon the model the very minimal increase of power(5hp 5tq) over the 2.2 is offset by additional emissions equipment ULEV for example. timing belt and water pump should be replaced as preventative maintenece by 100k. other then that there is no real expenisve problems. as long as the tranny is in good working order and wasnt beat on. but thats obvious stuff to look out for anyways. the power windows on honda like to act up when they get old also. as far as options the

2.2 comes in both base and premium trim only available in 97

2.3 comes in only premium trim 98+ and has nicer center console and steering wheel. i also prefer the hood grill better on 98+ models.

the console and packages are better from 98 and up, unless you have premium

Is there some way to easiliy tell if the timimg belt has been changed or not?
How much of a job is it to change the belt and pump on these?

600 would probly be your worst case where as 400 would be a best case. depends on the shop. shop around before you have it done.
