Just picked up my CL last night!!

Hi everyone. I just bought a '98 3.0 Premium. I've browsed your forum for a few days. Just want to say Hi and have a few questions for you.

1) What's the difference between the Standard CL and the Premium?

2) Would someone please give me a quick tutorial on using the climate control? The reason I ask this is because I tried using the heater by putting it on auto at 90. However, the air that came out the vents wasn't warm but instead cool. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

3) What are the factory colors that the CL's come in? I have this light green that looks purplish when the sun hits it at certain angles. What color is this?

Thanks guys. I'll probably have some more questions for you since I didn't get an owner's manual with the car.

Oh yeah, one more thing. My remote for the factory alarm does not work, and I tried reprogramming it using the directions given in the archives, but it still doesn't work. Where is the brain located and what else should I look at? Should I just go ahead and get an aftermarket alarm?? Thanks.

welcome to the board man.

-the standard CL doesnt come with leather. the CL premium does. and there were some different wheel choises for the CL premium.
-you have the 98 so you have the good dash, not the crappy one that comes on the 97 model... like mine.
-the climate control should warm up..... how long did you let it go for?
well..... thats all i can think to answer now.

happy posting

Welcome! You bought a great car. Let me try and answer your questions, although a quick search of previous posts on this site might reveal what you're looking for. Also, the Acura web page has a pretty good history on it, as do carpoint, edmunds, etc.

1) The premium package included leather seats, seat heaters, the Bose upgraded stereo, the HomeLink system, and different wheels.

2) The climate control is automatic, that is, when you set it on auto and pick a temperature, it will work to maintain that temperature. The only exceptions to that are setting it to 60 or 90, which will maintain maximum cooling or heating respectively. As with any climate control system, you have to give it a few minutes to heat up or cool down, although I have found the CL's system to be quite effective and fast to respond.

3) The factory colors changed slightly from year to year and also on whether it's a 2.2/2.3 or 3.0. I don't remember what was offered with what, but here is a list of the '98 colors: Baltic Blue Pearl Metallic, Dark Blue Green Pearl Metallic, Flamenco Black Pearl Metallic, Iced Teal Pearl Metallic, Inza Red Pearl Metallic, Primrose Mist Metallic, Taffeta White. I don't know what color yours would be--it sounds like that ultra-cool Mustang Cobra color from a few years back!

Hope that helps...

Aloha and welcome! Honestly, I would highly suggest ordering an owners manual or going to your dealer to get them to show you how everything operates. If your car is still under its bumper-to-bumper warranty the Acura dealer will most likely welcome you with open arms. Most Acura dealers take pride in first-rate customer service so I'm sure they could be of assistance to you. HOpe that helps

I have a 99 2.3. Am I crazy or was there no "premium" package available for this year? I know the 99 3.0 had seat & side mirror heaters but not much difference beyond that (plus a V6). I don't think cloth seats were an option for the 99s?

For '99 they eliminated the premium package and gave all standard CL's the items that previously were extra. Oh, and you reminded of one other thing that was included: the heated side mirrors!

bad choice, you should have bought a honda civic! than you would be different than everyone else on the road. see, everyone has cl's, and nobody has civics.

plus the 3.0's are slow, only 200 hp stock! these cars suck!

um, that was my halloween disguise, i was dressed up as a high school ricer with a big boeing aircraft wing and seat belt pads in my civic.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN AND WELCOME. there is no greater collection of acura cl knowledge anywhere else in the world!

Welcome to the board. I had the same problem with my heat too when I picked up my CL two yrs ago this january. The heat seemed more cold than hot. After a while of constant use, 90 degrees felt like 90 degrees instead of 70. As far as the premium package and the standard, listen to what these guys say, I'm not sure. All i know is I have a 97 2.2 Premium, still have the stock sticker. Was heated seats an option in the 97 2.2? I thought it was only for the 3.0 that year.

Thanks!!

Thanks for the warm welcome and all the replies with the info.

rmstoico: You got me worried when I started reading the post. Nice little trick you played on me for Halloween.

Well, I think my heater does not work at all. It was a little chilly this morning so I drove to campus w/ the climate control set to 90 and the a/c off. The air that was blowing in was the same temp as the outside air. Guess I'll have to bring it into the dealership when I get a chance.

No heated seats on the 2.2 only 3.0 The 2.2 never got the power sliding seat when the slide is slid forward to go in the back.

To answer the question about the ac comming on with the heater and the defroster im going to guess that it does this to keep the seals lubricated in the ac compressor by making the air come on with the heat and defrost. In colder climates someone may never turn on the ac for an extended period of time thus causing the seals to go bad and the ac system to break. :P Mabey

Yep, cloth/non-premium was an option in the 98 which I have. Leather seats and all the extras would be nice, but not sliding around during hard turns is also nice.
