As I left our local import meet Friday I walked away pissed. As I went up and down the rows of cars all i heard was "Check out the body kit o my god" "wow that looks like a fast and the furious car" and they were pointing at neons, at turquise honda civics, and at the millions of preludes that run around our town. Then I thought what the hell. Why am I fucking around when no one apprechiates a good car till it runs their ass over. Why wasnt the silvia conversion (full, body engine and interior) the topic of conversation, or the spearco intercooled and twin turbo eagle talon? It is because any dumb ass can go out and put a damn muffler, some altezza, some Primax rims and apc lights on their car. This shit is pissing me off. its not fun anymore. And when 2f2f comes out we all know this shit is gonna be blown out of the water. we are gonna see POS cars like contours, gmc conversion vans with mufflers, and god damn ford probes crawling fromt he corners. Now I am not dissing the true enthusiast, or those who strive to be unique (like most of us) but the idiots who race around traffic because they have a muffler on their car. I see 1987 cavaliers with apc window decals I mean come on when will it stop!?
thats why I have came to a conclusion.
1.) Do something tottaly crazy, so custom that everyone will step back and say holy shit (custom body fabrication, shaved 2dr with new engine, remove back seat for custom audio, and maybe (looking into it) a convertable conversion)

2.) Tell everyone who thinks about getting into the import scene to stop, because lets face it, its fun yet gets overrated.
3.) Work on a truck/blazer. at least here I have more possibilities and wouldnt have a damn 4 door civic beating me at competitions because he has purple lights and altezzas.

I know its a little rash but what can I say? I am bored!

Nice idea, i can't picture our car in a convertible though? It would be totally unique though. Lots of money, and if i had it, i would jump ship on the fist gens and bump up to the 2nd gen type s. 2f2f is gonna be such a joke, Vin Diesel isnt even in it, but they substitute Tyrese?WTF

 

some kid that lives by me has a convertable ex civic coupe with a b18 and 18"s, fully shaved. It's pretty unique for a civic.

I used to have an acura legend and there is a fella in ATL who does legend coupe convertible conversions for about 10 grand which includes a custom paint job. it CAN be done but remember it would not be a true convertible. Just a hard top you would have to remove to make convertible....

 

All those people gawking at stupid neons and ford contours are one of two people:

1) stupid high school kids who know no better,

or

2) stupid Mexican kids who know no better.

I got nothing against Mexicans, but come on, name one other ethnic group who knows how to make their cars complete shit better than Mexicans.

There was a full convertible legend (canvas top) in Mt. Laurel a few years ago. It looked amazingly good as a convertible

 

I agree... thats why having a CL is perfect!!! More and more of them show up in car shows.. but only a handful are actually worthy of IMPORTS SCENE STATUS!!!! Its great because at HINS, etc my car is a highlight!!!

about the truck thing... Its been around alot longer than the import scene.. that sis a played out scene!!!! Its all over... the south, midwest, northeast, west coast... east coast... its everywhere and usually its the same S-10 pickup or large truck (escalade, navigator, etc)

 

I dont know about everyone else, but out here, I cant stand seeing all the Grand Am's with loud exhausts and black outs and neon out here. They are the old school Grand Am's too. So annoying. Oh yeah and the big rear window stickers. It's one thing on a Honda or Nissan, but the PONTIAC really bothers me. Im not trying to hate, I just havent got used to it I guess.

I guess I have to look back at my first car, an 87 Silver Subaru GL hatchback. I had it tinted with plastic pie pan hub caps and a 800W JL audio system......LOL

It doesn't matter if your fixing up a car, truck, motorcycle, or even your house - there are classy, tasteful ways to do things (and to do it this way well usually takes alot of $$$) and there are cheesy, cheap "everybody else did it so why don't I" ways. People can tell the difference, and if they say they can't, they either have no taste or they're lying.

Casper, I meant neon LIGHTS. Im not a big fan myself, although it depends on vehicle I suppose.
As for Neons the car, OH yeah, I know they have come a long way. There is a guy in town here with a very sweet R/T. I happen to like those.

oh.. im sorry about that!!! Yes I agree with the neons to an extent.. when the bulbs are showing and not "under your car" then there is an issue.. but tricked out neons for show cars (which are in my plans since i show) are actually very appealing!!! but like you said.. it depends on the car and how they were done!!!
