Just bought a wrecked '98 CL - Need Parts

This was posted awhile ago in the blackmarket section but I was told I may have better luck in this forum

I just purchased a '98 CL (premium) that has a wrecked front end and needs an entire paint job. Chainlink fence made it look like it went through a cheesegrader. Anyway I have searched quite a bit for used parts but haven't had any luck for this model and year. If you know where I can get any of the following: HOOD, RIGHT FENDER, FRONT BUMBER, BOTH AIRBAGS, RIGHT HEADLIGHT & MARKER LIGHT and a WINDSHIELD. Please let me know. I got this car for a pretty sweet price but I don't have the bucks to buy all new parts. Any links are appreciated and thanks for reading.

Oh yeah if you want to see the car, there are some photos Here .We went down a four foot drop-off and through a chainlink fence going about 15-20 miles per hour.

Also if anyone can recommend a place to get estimates on the body work...etc. in the Sacramento area I would appreciate it as well.
Thanks

to tell you the truth i dont think its worth repairing. i mean im no body man or insurance claims officer but that looks pretty much totalled! and even if you did get a good price on it, after u fix it she wont be worth anything because lets be honest who wants to buy a car that was totalled! i think youd be better off parting it out. oh and u kind of contradicted yourself when u said you bought a wrecked cl, but then u said WE went down a 4 ft drop through a fence. just wondering if u could clarify?
oh im curious, how much did u pay for it? if u dont mind

Well thanks for your honest opinion, hopefully you are wrong though...(crossing my fingers) Sorry I didn't clarify that earlier but I bought this off a friend of mine I work with. He was driving and me and my girlfriend were with him when he wrecked. I don't know if I would say this car is totalled since I am thinking the MOST it could cost is $8000 to fix, I am sure it will be cheaper but that's just a very pestimistic guess to be on the safe side. I bought the car for $2000, it has 55K on it and a clear title and after the fix I would have under $10k into it. I have looked around and they go for more than that anywhere
Thanks again for your post. Keep em coming.

Yeah I wouldnt consider that totalled at all! Only the front passenger side seems to be really messed up, not the whole car. Good luck on getting the parts for it.

My friend wishes he had insurance at the time, he has it now on his 2003 TL type S though. As fo for my car, yes there are scratches all the way down so a full paintjob or at least the entire top of the car needs painted.

Airbags will run between $700 and $1600 depending on who has them and the title is clean.

Man for 2ks that car is a steal. I think i will totally be worth it to fix it and while you are at it you can get after martket parts for it and get a killer paint job. If you can get the money or if you have a hard time finding an used bumper just get an after market from ebay and also get the clears bumper lights while you are at it.
As dustbuster pointed out acuraautomotiveparts.net is great web site for those hard to find parts. You can order every bolt, screw, and piece of metal you can think of. I recently ordered from them and got everything in about 10 days. Good luck with your project and let keep us informed on your progres.

It seams like time for maybe lil insurance scam......... call and insure that car on your insurance and then keep it in garage so it wont get rusted .......... And then claim an accident to your insurance comp. ........... Yeah your insurance gonna go up ...but you gonna pay money either way. Reason why i think its gonna work ......... cause when you call to insure your car to insurance co. NO ONE comes out too look at it . so they don’t know what condition you got it in (unless you tell them) important thing is not to wait till it will get rusted cause them when estimator comes out too look at car he will smell some thing fishy!
Good luck dude ................btw. i never tried it but it seams like you got nothing to loose .

you forgot to mention that before you can insure a car, you must submit pictures of the car taken by an authorized garage to the insurance company. this prevents people from doing exactly what you said, at least in new york it does. not sure about other states, insurance company's would be pretty stupid not to request pictures though!

Goldie....creative thinking but I think I will pass....lol
If I can't get the money to fix it I would rather just sell the car for parts and make a little extra money than risk doing ANY jail time for insurance fraud The same thought did cross my mind but it was going at the speed of light. (thank god...lol)

i guess maryland residents are trusted by their insurance company's. here in new york, we pay out the a$$ for car insurance, primarily because of insurance fraud! in an attempt to limit the number of false claims, the company's here take needed measures and rightfully so.

yeah here in FL you have to get an inspection before they will insure u! no its not like a 100 point inspection they just look at the body for any damage, and mark if there is any then take a picture. i guess its different in all states!

Hey SacGuy, are you interested in used or new parts? A buddy of mine works in a salvage yard and I've gotten parts from him many times. Not for my CL but for other cars. I can find out if any CL's have come in recently. Let me know if your interested.

Here's another place you might want to check... They don't seem to get many CL's but it might be worth it to send them an inquiry... H.A.P.S Recycling

97CL2.2- that is my girlfriend, is she available?....hmmmm got any parts to trade...lol (Just kidding) And I have already tried HAPS but thanks anyways.

joeshmoe - I am looking for used or new, whatever I can find that will get my car back on the road the cheapest. I have called EVERY wrecking yard in the Roseville phonebook and only one yard has a CL but it doesn't have any parts I need
Still searching so if you find any used parts please let me know.
Thanks.

Also if anyone knows what color my interior is (type B) that would really help my nationwide search for airbags...lol

well

I wouldn't sink too much cash into it, but I think you got a great deal since the trans and engine are worth much more than 2k alone.

I don't plan on sinking to much into it. Actually I may not even be able to come up with the money to fix it at all. I was planning on borrowing it from a friend but that fell through so now I am debating on what to do. I had one offer so far for $5k and one for $4k but I am not sure how serious they were. Anyone want to tell me what I should be able to get for this car if I have to sell it instead of fixing it?
Any offers for future reference?

If someone offers you 4-5k snatch it off their hands. It will be the easiest 2-3ks you have ever made.

I agree... Then you can buy a car for 4k and sell it for 6- With that money, you could buy a couple cars and the next thing you know, you'll own your very own used car lot.
(i am bored out of my mind).

Well after much thought as well as trying to come up with the money to fix this car I decided to sell it. I posted it on a message board (craigslist.org) at midnight night before last and had 11 people very interested in it by 1:00 p.m.. I sold it to the first guy that showed up and got $4600 for it, he seemed pretty happy with the deal and I made out o.k. as well. So thanks goes out to everyone that has tried to help me with this, I appreciate it and am still looking forward top being an Acura owner some day.
