just bought greddy sp - need help

Hi,

i'm pretty new to this forum. I just got a greddy sp installed on my 97 2.2Cl, and drove it home. By the time I pulled into the driveway, it was rattling pretty good - if I revved the engine and let it come down to idle, there was a pretty bad rattling sound. It sounded like something was loose.

I had it installed at an import parts shop, its pretty good as far as Indy goes. I called the guy immediately and he said it might be a "heat shield" - I'm not sure what that is. He said to bring it, which I'll do tomorrow.

Any thoughts? I'm going to take it in, but I'm a newbie so I don't want to get screwed since I'm naive.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Is it more pronounced at high revs? It probably is the heat shield. That's the most common cause.

if I rev it, then let it come down, it rattles as it falls below 2500 to 1500. it doesnt rattle at idle. when i first got in, i revved it to 6,500 and i noticed a bit of a rattle. this is different, its a lot louder, it sounds like something is loose and it is at a lower rpm range. could it still be the heat shield?

not really - its raining out here, so I didn't push it, and i didn't think that putting the exhaust was going to give me much anyway. the whole thing was rusted out, i had to replace it. i'm putting a CAI on this weekend. but no, i didn't really notice more power.

to be honest, i was listening for noise on the way home more than i was feeling for power. like i said, it was raining, so i wasn't going all out. it may very well have given me some power, but i'm not sure at this point. previously, my exhaust was completely severed by rust, there wasn't much flow going through the muffler at all. it sounded good, but then the pipe really came loose and dragged on the ground for a mile - at that point i needed to get something done.

so, to answer your question - i'm not sure.

btw i'm not sure what going rates are for the sp, but i paid $472. I initially got a quote for a lot more. There's a good site that I picked up from this forum, www.optauto.com. If you haven't checked it out, look it up for prices.

manual. i'll let you know when i get out on some dry road, probably tomorrow. i'm putting an AEM CAI on sometime this weekend, its sitting in the backseat. maybe the exhaust will help more when i have the intake on. these are the first mods i've put on, period.
