Interior Change Complete
Interior Change Complete
The interior changes are complete!
The CL is off to the body shop for blending and a new color....
This is a sneak peak at the inside, I included both before and after shots. The once charcoal interior is now all black and the original charcoal leather has been replaced with new silver leather. The new steering wheel is for a '02 accord V6. The wood trim has been painted to look like steel.
I don't visit the site too often anymore so I will post answers to any questions when I get the CL back from the shop. I will also post many quality photos.

I like the painted dash, wheel i wouldn't have noticed if you didn't tell me, and personally, i like the "silver" leather, looks more like a light gray though. I am curious on the price of these mods, let us know
Very nice.
Like everybody else, how much does it cost to get something like that done. Always thought about changing the stock beige interior to a really light gray interior with silver trim.
Anybody know of a place in the TriState NY area?

Okay, I am going to try and answer all the questions at once.
I. The costs are as follows:
Vinyl dye $4.50 per can total of 8 cans (includ. testing)
Fabric dye $4.50 per can total 2 cans
New leather approx. $750 (ruined factory leather I'll explain later)
Metal paint for wood $ 5.00 per can total 2 cans
Steering wheel $190 (I think) from honda dealer
And a buttload of time
II. Wood removal
DOORS (the doors are very similar, I'll explain the driver door)
roll the window down. remove the plug and 2 screws from the inside door 'close' handle. pull the top corner of the trim, covering the mirror screws, until is pops off. pop out the plug inside the hinge side jamb area (looks like a small round circle). remove the small screw from behind the inside door 'open' handle. the black plastic trim should slide towards the rear of the vehicle and while holding the handle open, it should start to slide over the handle while continuing to pull it to the rear of the car, un-plug the door lock switch. remove the 2 screws holding the door 'open' handle and lock onto the door and let it hang there (this will make removing and replacing the panel a lot easier, but if you need to use the vehicle while the panel is off, you should put those 2 scews back in after it is removed). from the bottom of the door, using a flat screwdriver or your fingers, pull the door panel away from the door, it will make these 'pop' sounds, there are about 4 along the bottom and 2 upward above the light on the door. with all the tabs popped off, reach under the panel and un-plug the light wire. now reach up higher and un-plug the security LED wire. While tilting the bottom of the panel away from the door, start sliding the panel up and off of the window jamb. once it slides off, you will need to un-plug the remain wires for the windows and mirrors. on the inside of the panel you'll see the 5 goldish colored screws holding on the wood trim.
SUNROOF
remove the coin tray by opening it popping it out. remove the one screw behind the coin tray. remove the plastic trim under the steering wheel by starting at the bottom and pulling it away from the door. it too has the tabs that 'pop' out. with a stubby phillips screwdriver, reach up under the dash behind the sunroof button. the are 2 screws holding the piece in place.
CENTER CONSOLE
(this is only for the 98 and up console) open the armrest door and pull out the CD holder, 2 screws are under it. there is one screw on each side of the armrest console, you may have to reposistion the seat to get to them. pull up the parking brake. now the armrest should slide to the rear and lift up and over the brake handle. remove the 2 exposed screws at the base of the wood trim. remove the ashtray (there may be one screw behind it, can't remember). using a long flat head screwdriver you will need to carefully pry up under the wood trim to the right and left of the shift lever/knob, these too are those 'pop' tabs.........be carefull and take your time. now the piece should pull away from the dash (those with autos may have to take the car out of park). there are several switches, lights, cig lighter and a clock to unplug.
AC CONTROL TRIM
using a stubby phillips screwdriver, reach under the dash above the radio and below the AC control unit. there are 2 screws to remove. also remove the two harnesses that plug into the bottom of the AC control unit. open the glove box, there is one screw in the upper right hand side of the glove box lip. now the wood trim will pop away from the dash...........again be carefull, start at the right hand side and pull lightly, and the AC controls will come out with the trim, there are 2 screws holding it to the backside of the trim.
III. Dye
it is very important to thoroughly clean the plastic and vinyl. I would take out the pieces and clean them with dish soap and a bristley brush, scrub the items really good and rinse them well. make sure you use a dye that inpregnates the plastic/vinyl and NOT one that coats or covers, they will wear off. that was the problem I had with my seats. I started to dye them silver but found out the silver does not penetrate, it just coated the outside, so the color started cracking a flaking off. since I ruined the seats I had to purchase all new leather. DON'T USE SILVER. the black works great.
IV. METAL PAINT
I sanded all the trim pieces with 2000 grit paper. I filled in the little groove that goes aroung the AC panel so it was smooth and rolled into the panel. the 'hammered steel' paint I used is made for metal and has glass beads in it to create a textured swirl look in the color. it is a Rust-Oleum product. you have to put it on in coats not more than 1 hour apart, or the second coat will bubble the first coat, that or wait 10 days until it fully cures. I originally intended to coat the metal paint with clear acryllic or lacquer and wet sand them smooth. both of those clear coats caused the metal paint to bubble and wrinkle. I even tried to wetsand just the metal paint, which worked except it changed the finish of how the paint looked, so I left it alone. it has an rough eggshell finish.
well I hope that answers all the questions and I hope I didn't leave anything out.............if someone catches something I missed, please post it. the rest of the car should be done in late March or early April. it has taken quite a bit longer only b/c I was job less for 8-1/2 months............I will post more pics when I get the car back.

I have had a problem with the hard plastics. I can't get the dye to stick well enough. I used an adehesive as well and stil on my door sills it scrapes off. This is why I started to buy grey interior so the beige won't show up too bad.
Also, how did you do the lining that goes around the door and sunroof?

My roof pilars and head liner where light grey..........I didn't change them. If you mean the rubber piece that goes around the door...........I don't think you can dye rubber...........it wha pretty dark so I left it alone as well.

Looks good, much better than the carbon fiber. Hows the kit coming?
