Thumbs up intake filter

Well i search about it and couldn't find much (most of you guys have AEM or CAI intakes)

I still have my stock intake (problably will save some $$ and get a V2 later on), and need to change my filter.

so for those who have stock intake, is there a better intake filter than the OEM one? i've heard of fram and K&N but don't know much 'bout them.

thanx guys

AEM is the company that produces a Short Ram Intake, a Cold Air Intake, and their very own V2.

A short ram intake sits close to the engine and creates a buzzing sound (supposedly.) It helps a bit w/lower end torque.

a Cold Air Intake is better for higher end power. It sits in the front right fender (on a 2.2/2.3) and is low to the ground, where it collects colder air from the floor. I have one of these.

a V2 is sort of a short ram, but not. It puts out more power than a CAI, according to what people say. Some have said it also makes buzzing noise like SRI, but Im not sure about that.

If you have trouble with flooding in your area, i highly suggest you stay away from the CAI, because theres a chance that you might suck water up into your engine (by accidentally running your car through a flooded area of water.

I myself am saving up for a v2.

in the end, I say V2 > CAI > SRI > stock airbox.

good luck,
-Alex

if you're not puttin a better intake on, then put a K&N drop in filter in there. if you want a new intake, aem or k&n is the way to go

Yeah, get a K&N air filter. While you are at it, remove the intake resonator which basically sucks up hot air. Here is a link on how to do it.

I don't think there is much of a difference in performance between getting a K&N+removing the resonator VS. Short Ram Intake. Intakes are pretty damn loud though....all that humming.

The real sucky thing about the resonator is the fact that the inlet is directed toward the engine bay so it sucks up hot air. I think this is the real horsepower/efficiency robbing element of the design. I have no freakin' idea why Honda engineered it this way. I think they are the only car company that does this.

I seriously don't think a short ram intake will yield any significant gain, if any over removing the resonator+K&N combo. Look at the Mugen intake design for the TSX, it's basically the same concept albeit with carbon fiber housing and a small inlet funnel.

Yeah it's $980. Pretty expensive for basically a Carbon Fiber version of the stock intake box and a new air filter.

Well, here's a link with a dyno chart of the TSX stock intake vs. Comptech Icebox. The stock intake of the TSX is a similar design to the CL. There is a little gain, IMO this is probably mostly from removing the resonator and sticking in a better filter.

http://www.comptechusa.com/images/dyno/tsx_icebox.pdf

A cold air intake will probably give you a little more HP, but you have to think if it's worth the extra noise, hassle of cleaning the filter, and cost.
