Insurance Issue

First of all, let me tell a story. The other day, i was driving home from work and some idiot coming from the other direction decided to take a left hand turn right into the side of my car. My light was green, idk about his, but either way its his fault and he got a ticket. He hit me right on the driver side rear wheel and my car spun into a snowbank... deploying the air bags

But what does that mean? Well, air bags cost 2-3k to replace, multiplied times 2, means that the airbag value alone totals my car.

So now my CL is gone, I am pissed, and the insurance company wants to give me 5.1k for my car. He says that if i can find similar cars for sale from the south (which was where it was originally purchased... im in NY) with a higher price tag, i will get that much more back.

If anyone knows of 97-99 2.3CLs with ~100,000 miles for more than 5.1k for sale, PLEASE send a link! I found nothing on Ebay, but he will also accept Craigslist or similar sites. Im trying to get as much as i can for this car and im desperate. Any information would be valuable.

I doubt they exist, but it cant hurt to ask right?

I would not recommend buying much of anything on craigslist especially if it was out of state. there is far to many scams going on with that site so you have to very careful who you talk to or what you attempt to buy from there

^wtf, did you read the whole post at all, he's not buying anything from craigslist. He said he needs ads of cl's and they can even be from craigslist. And he needs them over the 5.1k price which none of the cars in your autotrader link provided.

and to the OP: sorry to hear about the accident, i hope you're alright. And if the ads don't exist why don't you make them exist. Craigslist adds are free, you can find pics online of cl's obvoiusly, and i'm pretty sure you can type. These were just random statements thrown out, they in no way suggest or condone any sort of action.
Goodluck searching, and 5.1k seems like a not bad deal tho, my insurance company tried to screw me over when i totalled my last car.
and sorry for your loss

yea man, that was the VERY first thought, but he wants the days that the add was created as well, so i figure that was out of the question...ya know, if 50 adds appear all on the same day in my favor. i wish he were more stupid so i could get away with it!

dude, i had the same problem when I got hit... what you do is tell them to find you a replacement car. I had a 1991 toyota celica with 50k on it, and got hit by a minivan head on... when my dad and I told them to replace the car with something from that year with that mileage, and they said they can't, then we were like "yeah, it's going to take a lot more than the 2500 they wanted to give us..."

def check out autotrader..especially the dealer listings because they love to list cls at ridiculous prices. I found this one at a nissan dealer. They want 7 grand for it with like 140,000 miles http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...ce=&cardist=30

that's what I was thinking. But if the insureance is willing to give you at least 5.1k for a for a car that you could find for 4k, I'd say, take the 5.1k, get another CL, and put the other 1.1k in it.

And if you could get 7k for your CL from the listing that Brandon posted, you could do a nice little H22 swap!

Im probably gonna get a newer car. In was thinking of the CL-S or maybe a TL. I dont really care for speed or anything, but basically im looking for a good looking, reliable, luxurious, gas saver. The 2.3 fit that perfectly (and my budget, which is key for any college student). I was thinking the Mazda 3, but it looks a little too "bubbly," but i drove my friends and that car is fun to drive, incredibly tight response and suspension, but its still a smooth ride. Maybe a Mazdaspeed 3?

Idk, im tossing around so many cars in my mind, but i shouldnt worry about it until the end of the semester. I am open for suggestions though! I know i wont find another 2.3 in my area that was in the condition mine was in. It was a florida car for 85k miles, so no rust at all even after 100k, plus it was running synthetic oil for 90% of its life and was previously owned by a female doctor, age of 35+.

Good luck with your search. The CL-S is a great choice (the 6 speed, anyway).

Does the CL-S have any reliability issues?

the transmissions are poopy for automatics. 6 speeds are good, im not sure if they're affected by the 3rd gear pop-out for honda 6-speeds though.

the first one was raped, look at how straight up the parking brake goes.
and the second is pretty expensive for 112,000 miles.

oh yea, i know i can get that car for about $10-11k. i wouldnt take it for any more. my 99 2.3 with 83k miles was going for $14k (outrageous) but i talked it down to $7k (from a dealer). I refuse to buy that cl-s for more than 11k, including taxes. that car has also been on their lot for a few months, so i can use that to my advantage. i just hope its still there by spring break, because im not gonna be home until then, so i guess the price is good for now to scare people away.

Alright, i know im reviving a dead thread, but i have an update... if anyone cares...

Today, i just bought my second 2.3 CL 5-speed for 4k. it has 111k miles on it, brand new clutch, tires, suspension (dropped an inch or so), and tune up. Exterior is black, interior is black. Both are in like-new condition. The only scratch i could find was on the passenger mirror. All electric motors work like new, both windows and seats. Leather is is great condition. Engine is in great condition, no rough idle or starts. This car is everything i wanted in my last CL, but at no cost to me... Nagginf the insurance company for more money was well worth it.

The squeaky wheel gets the oil.

Ill post pics this weekend, looks like im here to stay.
