Insurance gave me $6k
Hey all, I havent been around for awhile but i had a '97 CL 5spd with 289,000 miles on and used to frequent the forums pretty often. I ended up buying an '05 TL about a year and a half ago but my sister decided to drive the car once in awhile instead of driving her horse towing ford 4 door diesel. Long story short she hit a ford escort going around 60 in March which left one passenger of the escort in critical condition and the husband didnt make it. My sister amazingly wasnt hurt physically and the accident wasnt her fault but the car was totalled. The really crazy thing was the insurance gave us $6,000 for the car. Keep in mind this was a '97 pushing 300k miles and we still got that much. Just thought you would all like to know how acura holds their valves. Hope everyone is going well around the 1st Gen forums

Wow, that's a tough situation to go through I'm sure, that's to bad.
Good to see a fellow DMB fan around though, I like the avatar. Are you a warehouse member by any chance? Catch any shows lately?

Hey Guinness, I am a member and caught three shows this year. One in Gainesville, FL, West Palm Beach, and I think the other was Tampa. It was awesome to hear all his new songs
As for my sis, yea it was really hard on her. She was going straight in a 55 right around 60 when a car turned left in front of her. She hit the pass. door where the ladies husband was sitting. They (the ex wife of the guy killed that was driving and the daughter who wasnt even in the car) sued for tons and tons of money and insurance ended up settling even though it was ruled the ladies fault and she lost her license for six months. My sister still crys if she has to go by the spot and she was so upset that she withdrew from pharmacy school for the semester. She is doing better tho and actually has another CL now but a second gen

considring she killed someone, even though not her fault i still dont think it appropriate for you to write about how much you got for the car. and the first gen has shitty resale value actually. insurance companies decide the value based on their own book of values too, not the market value

Value is really not shitty on these cars. I just traded mine to a dealer, got $5500, the car needed new front brakes/rotors and the tranny was going to need another rebuild. They turned around and put the car back on the lot for 9900, almost a $1000 more than I paid for it 2 1/2 years and 15,000 miles ago. My car was on the lower end of the mileage but it's definitely held it's value well for a 10 year old car.

i did...never been happier, the cl was a hand-me-down car from the old lady to begin with so I never wanted it. and the trade in on that car sucked...$1500 for a car that was in pretty good condition.

yea, cool that everything worked out. Hope your sis is doing OK with the whole thing. I can't believe you got 6 Gs. That is awesome. Wonder if it was a one time thing or that happens more often in other places.

What I wanna know if the wife was ruled at fault how did she get paid all kind of money from your insurance? Oh wait, cuz a jury or judge probably awarded it cuz it came from the insurance company.

Why is it inappropriate? I mean I was amazed at how much we received for the car and I thought others would be interested seeing how everyone in the 1St Gen forum HAS the car. It happened along time ago and while I feel terrible about the ex husband of the lady driving, I feel way worse for my sister because she went thru a ton of shit and still is because some lady cut in front of her. She didnt kill the husband, the wife killed her ex husband but my sister has to deal with the death for the rest of her life. As for them getting money, the lady hit was a greedy bitch and just wanted money. She didnt seem too upset about the death and her daughter didnt either while my sister could barely make it thru the court day. They just wanted money and instead of settling for 200k or so they drug us to court, they got fined, the lady's license was taken for 6 months, and while some money was still given to them it ended up being less because she had to pay the lawyer, court fees, and the fine. I really dont think there is anything wrong with this post but I am sorry if i offended you Dicorp.
Again, just saying that my car with a ton of miles was still worth something in insurance eyes and the resell from what i have seen is really good. I have had zero problems with this car and with almost 300k i couldnt have been happier with it and hopefully you all feel the same about your cars.
