installation of Infinity Basslink
installation of Infinity Basslink
hi, I called circut City about installing the Infintiy Basslink and the guy told me
the radio would have to be taken out then wired and put back. Is this true?
I'm concerned they might mess up my car or radio trying to do this job
thanks

They dont' have to do that to connect the basslink to the factory stereo.
There are two ways to install the Basslink (only the first method works with Factory Stereo)
1 Using Speaker Level Inputs (wires connected to the speaker)
2 Using RCA Cables coming from the stereo
You would possibly need to remove the stereo to connect RCA's but since the Basslink has speaker level inputs there is no need to remove the stereo because the factory stereo has no RCA outputs so you are forced to use the speaker level inputs on the basslink.
All that needs to be done is tap into the right and left rear speaker wires and splice them in such a way that they still connect to the speaker and also connect to the supplied harness for the basslink.
The only problem I had with mine was they couldn't hook up th R.E.M. lead to the ignition or to one of the empty sockets on the fuse block under the dash because whenever I turned the car off it would make a funky sound out of the basslink. So instead there is a built in on/off feature that detects when power is sent through the speaker level inputs and that is what triggers the basslink to turn on and off. However, the basslink will turn off after 5 minutes of inactivity, that's what I read in the manual.
I'll check on my basslink exactly what kind of inputs it has to let you know a little later.

The basslink has the RCA and high level inputs. Since I was adding it to my stock system, I just ran the high level inputs. I also went with the signal on/off mode since I didn't have a remote. ( I could have tapped into something I suppose ) So, No, you don't have to remove your deck. I spliced into my rear speakers for the inputs and just ran the power/ground cables.
This was on my Z. I know it would work on the 2.2/2.3 the same way. Not sure about the 3.0's.

The basslink does have High level (speaker level) inputs and a set of RCA inputs
for our cars though, you'll be using the Speaker Level units since you're connecting it to the factory stereo.
Like i said earlier, all you have to do is tap into both the right and left rear speaker wires, and connect them to the corresponding wires on the harness supplied with the basslink.
They are definetly worth the money. They are the perfect addition to the stock system. Not loud enough to drown out the highs, and not too low where it'll sound like your a 16 year old that wants to be deaf by the age of 18. And they have the variable bass control which is nice because you can control how much bass the unit outputs. And they don't occupy much space at all.
I got mine on ebay for $218, they retail for anywhere between $400-$500
Do a search on here and you'll see plenty of other people's good experiences with it.
