Increase HP in 99 2.3 CL
Hey guys.......I've found some ECU's and some other things on ebay that will inrease HP on our cars. Now......I mean I can't just go by the claims of the sellers there......so is there ANYBODY with experience in buying an additional ECU or other things to inrease the HP of a CL? Do they work? Are they safe? What is the end benefit, etc? Thanks!

id say stay away from messing around w/ the ECU(unless of course you have thousands of dollars into your engine, then get a stanalone unit)
Start off with a cold air Intake then get a header and cat-back exhaust..and you will notice an increase in HP.

spark plugs, MSD plug wires and MSD ignition will help out w/startup and maximize the amount of spark you get(i noticed accelerated throttle response from these mods)

F-series are great as long as you got some high goals and serious cash. The F-series and J-series motors differ in the fact that with a $1,000 or less you can get great gains on a J-series (i.e. for around $500, headers and UR crank pulley will give you close 20 HP to the wheels), but not really on an F-series but once you get into the $2,000 and up range the F-series benefits more because there are turbo kits available and the F-series responds well to turbos, and not only that but Naturally Aspirated F-series motors can be quite impressive.
Turbo Route
I usually reccomend going with pre-fab kits and if you got the money you can go that route but the F-series is one motor that you can definitely fabricate your own set and be straight. Mostly because there is alot of information out there on turbo-charging F-series motors and you will be able to get a good idea of what works and what doesn't. I've seen a turbocharged F-series accord that was done for less then $1,000 (of course that's with used parts and the guy did all the work himself). A more realistic goal which I think is attainable if you do your homework and do the work yourself is $2000.
Naturally Aspirated route
I/H/E, pullies, aftermarket camshafts, cam gear, V-AFC should make you quite respectable
Swap Route
If your goal is to a very reliable 180-200 HP to the wheels, your best route is to swap in an H22A and do some light modding.

You must know what you want out of your car, before you spend thousands of dollars into it. That way, it'll be easier on you and your wallet during that process. If I were in your situation right now, I'd ask myself (considering an interest for more power) "What do I want with my car? And, what is my budget like?" Once you have those two questions answered and out of the way, it'll be an easier time figuring out what you want to do.
Remember, whatever you want to do is limited by only your budget.
