I'm looking for a great sounding exhaust

Hi everyone new to the forums. I'm looking to pick the brains of some people that know more than I do. The exhaust on my Acura is rusting out and my catalytic converter has a piece of ceramic broken off so it rattles around which is really annoying so now would be the perfect time to put a new system in.

I'm looking for an exhaust that has as low of a sound as I can get for a 2.3 that still sounds good.

If anyone has some suggestions it would be much appreciated.

Here is a pic of my CL

Thanks for the help.

Not sure how loud you want it to be, but my Apexi WS2 is quite quiet with just a little exhaust note. It will be louder, i assume, once I do headers and a hi-flow cat. Overall I love my WS2 thus far, have had it almost 3 years now.

It doesn't have to be real loud I'm more concerned with the tone. I want a lower tone not the lawnmower sound some people put on their cars.

I really don't think mine has much of a tone at all, it was pretty close to stock sounding when I put it on, I tried it without an intake at first and it was quiet.

Would I be looking for an exhaust for a 94-97 accord when searching on that site as "CL" is not an option for acura?

My magnaflow sounded like my CL had the runs. Your best bet is to not bother with exhaust on a 2.2-2.3L, trust me, I know from experience. Go for looks and not sound, unless you get your engine swapped/turbod.

You'll be disappointed with whatever exhaust setup you get on your 4 CYL CL.

I have to replace mine regardless as it's rusting out. There has to be someone that put an aftermarket exhaust on their CL that had a decent lower tone.

Yeah dude, I have the full setup on my 2.2CL and it's nothing to write home about, it's loud as fuck but it is by no means deep.

If you're going to do anything, just get custom piping and put your stock muffler back on, get the OEM tips, they make the muffler look 10x better.

my exhaust in comparison to a stock exhuast:

another clip

see what I mean?

I didn't think that sounded too bad. Definitely was loud as fuck though you got that right. I've heard much more "lawnmower" esque exhausts.

My muffler is still in good condition as far as I can tell so maybe I'm going about this the wrong way. I definitely need a new cat so If I get a cat new piping and new tips I should be set.

Any cat suggestions?

A lot of aftermarket cats throw codes. My magnaflow one did for instance. I think one of our vendors on here xceler8 sells a good cat that won't throw codes.

I wish I still had my factory cat. But i forgot to ask for it back when I got my new piping installed...

Love my magnaflow. Sounds pretty deep to me, especially at lower rpm's. I swear mine has a deeper tone than Gnate's, and definately a lot lower than any of the civic ricers running around here. Loud as hell without a resonator.

I dont like that sound at all, i would preffer a more NISSAN Fx sound something deep.

Is there any setup that would give this sound ?

greddysp2 or apexi ws2 is the setup you're looking for. Its a nice deep tone and its quieter than most exhausts. When searching for a full catback, look for 94-97 accord as CL is usually not an option and the 94-97 accord setup will fit the CL

What do you mean "one of our vendors"?

I don't think there is any setup that will make a cl sound like it has a VQ unless you actually swap one in.

Incoming huge noob question. Catback doesn't including the cat correct or is it cat+muffler?

LOL. Its from the catalytic converter back. So no, it doesn't include a cat. Everything else is included though

See I told you it was a huge noob question =).

So I would have to get a cat + an exhaust system from this page.
http://www.greddy.com/products/displ...&SubCategory=1

The P# 10157020 would be what I would need correct?

yup, thats what you want. You dont have to get a cat from there, i had a catco/magnaflow hi flow cat with different piping on my last car.

Before you order, be sure that just ordering the muffler, cat and resonator and getting custom piping isn't cheaper than buying the whole catback. Get a quote from some muffler shops.

Thanks for the help.

Do you have any suggestions for sway bars?

I already have wheels/tires that I'm about to put back on since winter is over if I can get my exhaust back in shape I'll probably be set. Sway bars always intrigued me as a good/cheap investment to improve body roll.

I've got one more while I use up all my noob juice in this thread for a while.

Do you have any suggestions on a cat to match with a greddy catback system? Gnate earlier mentioned some cats throwing codes which I assume is gonna lite up your CEL. Are there any cat suggetions from users that don't have this problem?

yea really my GReddy SP2 took a beating for over 2 years and when i sold it to F22VTEC is hardly looked used.

magnaflow mufflers with custom piping is the cheap and easy way out.

That's exactly the sound I want.

What parts are you running from the exhaust headers back - I already have a CAI'

You have a new magna high flow cat? Yea I may actually be interested in that.

How much do you think exhaust headers affect the sound? That might be what I keep stock cat and back definitely needs replaced though.

You do know that with 2.5" piping you lose power, correct?

As long as you don't care about power in your N/A F series, then by all means, do the 2.5" piping.

its 2.25 to the axle then 2.5 from the axle back. i planned on turboing it.. the f23's a perfect candidate for turbo.. large plenum, long narrow runners. but thats $ and wont happen till longer down the road.
