Ignition Recall and Key Tumbler..
OK, I was at the dealer the other day. I found out that I qualify for the Ignition switch recall. I'm not having any of the problems listed here. The car always starts, and always runs. I'm getting it changed because it's free. My Question is: How manyu of you can remove your key without putting the car in Park. None of my other cars allow me to take out the key unless it is in park except my 99 2.3 CL. I took the steering column apart and found that there is a solenoid that activates when the key is off if the lever is not in Park. Attached to this solenoid is a lever that is supposed to prevent you from turning the key all the way back and getting it out. If I push the key in, like you have to on Honda's, the key slips by the lever with no problem. I can't see if the lever is worn, or was modified by someone(can't imagine why). Looking at parts diagrams for the key mechanism does not clearly call out this lever separately. Anybody have any experience with this? Am I able to replace just the lever, or will the entire assembly have to be replaced?
