Idle Problem
I already did the search but nothing came close to my problem.
I have a 98 CL 3.0
My car seems to jerk when in idle. once every 3-4 seconds. The RPM does not change when it does it and it happens in dirve and in park. the proble only starts after the engine has been warmed up. The car is fine while driving.
I have recently replaced the EGR valve, cleaned the IM and the IAC. I didn't replace the IAC because the RPM doesn't change at all in idle (about 700).
I had the EGR flow insufficient and cylinder misfire codes. I did a seafoam treatment in an attempt to fix the EGR problem but that's when the idle problem started. It did throw cylinder misfire code once after the EGR fix and went away by itself.
Anybody else have had this problem if so what was the fix? I doubt that it is the plug wires because it started with the seafoam. The pluggs are new and are gapped right.
Could I have messed up some sensors with the seafoam?
Any ideas or input are greatly appreciated. Thanks

I did the seafoam treatment on my car and didn't have any problems. In fact, it ran a lot smoother afterwards. Have you tried changing out the spark plugs and wires?

let your car warm up, go for a drive and check your cat after bout 10 min of driving . keep it running. look under your car and see if its glowing red hot. the carbon that the seafoam brokeup could be in the cat.

Great idea I'll defenitely check for that today.
One question though. The car runs/idles fine before the engine warms up. So I'm wondering if there really is carbon blockage in the cat, should it be blocked all the time. not just when it's warm?

I checked the cat last night after driving for about 1 hour and the cat doesn't see overly hot. just enought that I can still touch the shield.
Also I did the seafoam again hoping to flush out any carbon in the cat and a ton more black smoke came out. Does that mean that I still have a lot more carbon in it than I thought?
If the seafoam is done to a clean engine wouldn't there be much smoke?
With the engine in idle, I can hear some poping sound coming out of the tail pipe. Does that mean anything.

I had the car checked out by a local mechanic. He did a bunch of tests and coudn't find anything wrong with the car. (found my car has good compression on all cylinders though)
Then recently I read a few posts from wilp99 about the bosch platinums and guess what...
He was right... that was my problem. Replaced with NGK v-power coppers and the car idles just fine now.
Thanks wilp99.... thanks everybody.
