I think my radiator is leaking…
I have a 98 2.3CL with 205K miles
I need to confirm it but I’m starting to get small puddles under my car. The “tray” under my radiator is wet on the right side (standing in front of the car)…
I saw the OEM rads are about 275. I’ve also seen ebayers at 160ish. What do you guys recommend for a replacement?
Thanks!

Is the fluid green coolant? or antifreeze? Is your rad smoking or smelling like maple syrup (burnt coolant)? I got a koyo oem replacement rad on ebay for $80 shipped and replaced it myself, since I had the lines all unhooked I replaced the rad hoses and installed a tranny cooler and new tranny lines while I was at it

where is....
you got one for 80 shipped?!?!
i paid $118 shipped for a oem like radiator, but the oem cap doesnt fit on mine, i had to use theirs. but other than that it was fine.

Pussies. I'm not telling him to chug a gallon of anti-freeze, just taste a dab. Rinse your mouth out after with a beer and you'll live to see another day. And like I said, thats if you can't tell by smell.
And laugh all you want, but if you want to tell what fluid is and can't tell by smell it works.
There are plenty of old school mechanics that do it all the time and are still here to tell there tale.

No, tasting is what you are supposed to do. 96 of 100 dentists recommend sampling brake fluid, and if you still have teeth in the morning its just a plus. Didn't happen to look like this right...http://www.thestranger.com/binary/8f...ity-17861.jpeg ?

Replacing Radiator (Need a How To)…
My 98 CL (2.3 Manual, 205K miles) sprung a small rad leak that became a LARGE one on the way to work today. In traffic a few miles from my house my temps stared rising and puffs of steam started coming out of my grill... I made a B-line home and the temp when back down to normal while moving… Got home ok and popped the hood. The whole right side of my rad was soaked in coolant…
Good news is an OEMish replacement from my local parts place was only $130. They are getting it there for me today and I’m going to swap it out after work…
A quick how to would be great from someone who’s done this before. Looks like there are only 2 hoses… But where are the bolts that hold in the rad assembly. Looks like there are only pegs that hold it in from the top… Also how much coolant will I need to top it off. Should I use premixed stuff? Any insight would be Very helpful!!!!

ok,, I saw a post that said the rad has a mount that bolts in from the top...So there is no bolts on the bottom? I guess once I take my time to look at it will be obvious. Buy any insight would be good!!!!

BTW does the OEM rad have a drain or something to make removing the fluid that's left in there easy? Or should I just remove the bottom hose and let it all drain out????
Ok I’m done asking questions (for now)…
Thanks Guys!

This should be very easy and self explanitory when you get in there.
1. disconnect batterty
2. remove the 2 bolts on top of rad holding it to the frame
3. drain the old coolant by twisting the drain plug (bottom of the rad), if its not all gone already
4. disconnect the electrical fan plug
5. remove the fan bolts
6. use pliers and remove the 2 clamps from the upper and lower hoses (coolant will spill)
7. take old rad out.
8. install new rad. ( follow everything in reverse order)
9. fill up with coolant and keep the cap off. turn on the car and let it run until you see/hear the fan come on. then fill up with coolant if neccessary.
10. replace cap and close hood
11. use the money you saved and paypal it to me

I bought 2 premixed jugs from advanced auto and I didn't even use a whole jug, one jug should do ya. Not sure if the're gallon jugs, but whatever the prestone 50/50 mixed coolant in the yellow bottle with the handle, I didn't even need a whole one

One of these is all you need, prestone premixed 50/50
If you have a 3.0 with an intake, you have a nice bottle holder too

As Borat once said… GREAT SUCCESS!
The whole process took a little over an hour. One side note; My replacement Rad had two “hose connections” on the bottom which were not on the OEM. These are for cars with automatic transmissions for the trans cooler. If you have a manual just let them be. I did a quick fill test with the rad outside of the car and no water came out these holes. It is a separate “loop”…
Oh and it took exactly one of those prestone premixed jugs to fill the rad and res. I have an extra just in case I need to top the res in a few days
THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP GUYS!!!!!
