I officially hate the drag strip / Chris's Hair thread

That's right, I went again in hopes that I had eliminated the wheel hop that I had 2 years ago at the drag strip.

The only thing that changed was my suspension. I bought my coilovers with custom valving and spring rates for road racing. But at the same time, it did eliminate wheel hop on the streets coming off the line.

Now, I went to the drag strip with the intention that I'll be feathering the pedal for traction. WRONG!!!!!!!!!!

Straight off the line at 1300 rpms at about 25% throttle taking it to 75% throttle thinking I'll be dealing with wheel spin. To my surprise, it was wheel hop. I quickly play with the pedal and just take it to 2nd gear early. Same mess in 2nd gear. I let off and come back into it still getting wheel hop but not as bad. Then 3rd and 4th I had no issue. Coming in at 14.5 @ 100mph (0-60ft 2.5).

After that, I go to the parking lot and go over what went wrong coming off the line and debating what the f' was up with the wheel hop. I lower the tire pressure and don't really have an answer as to what I can do.

So I go at it again in the same lane, and again only worse. That run I came in at 15.4 @ 98 mph. (0-60ft 2.7)

3rd time is a charm right, . This time I went in the right lane thinking it would help. And it did. Zero issues with wheel hop, 100% issue with traction, lol. For some odd reason though, towards the end of this run I had a crazy amount of vibration in my car going down the strip, so I let off. 15.6 @ 87 mph (0-60 ft 2.6)

After that 3rd run, I was convinced to get my ass home before I broke something as I decided to insure the car and drive it there rather then towing it there with the Titan.

I tested the car on the way back and could not reproduce the vibrations off the line nor at freeway speeds.

Oh yea, and did I mention that my bottle wasn't working either. The wires look fine, but it doesn't activate. Just looked at it, and can't figure it out.

You were hauling ass at the end of the track. I don't know much about launching the CL, but what was your tire pressure and what are the spring rates for the coilovers?

Sounds like you just need a set of slicks and traction bars.

Damn that sucks, I hate wheel hop so much... one of the most annoying things in the world. Time to stiffen up more stuff and get some one-off CF axles made.

I eliminated the wheel hop by going with a 15 in tire and a cheater slick. But i was an auto also. My spray sometime wouldnt work alos and I had to redo the connection to the wire that was attatched to the throttle that said it was WOT had a bad connection soldered it and had no more probs

Yeap. That's exactly what I'll be looking at tomorrow when the sun is out. Even though I took off the electrical tape to look at the connection and felt it was fine, I'm simply just going to redo it and see if that works. I get the feeling the teeth isn't having contact with the wire.

What excites me the shitty 0-60ft times. Ideally we can hit as low as 2 second 60ft times. BUT, I would like to assume I can only hit a 2.1 60ft time. With that said, for every .1sec you take off the 60ft, you are .2sec faster at the end of the strip. So, if that 2.5 was a 2.1, I could have easily been in the 13's.

I think someone's best was a 1.9 or a 2.0 with a 2nd gen cls. I know it's one of the two, just have to find it.

If I remember correctly, drag racing a fwd requires the opposite suspension setup as oppose to road racing. There lies a huge issue with me as I stiffened the rear up for road racing. The only thing I can do to soften the rear is soften the rear coilover. But it's 3 clicks from it's softest point already.

I didn't check the tire pressure, I just let the air out for 20 seconds for each front tire. I was too lazy to grab my gauge as I had the intention to leave after only 1 run.

I'd love to stiffen up the front (other then the coilovers) to see how it does. But if I do that, this thing will plow through a turn.

Wheel hop is definitely a shitty encounter.

I might or might not try something to fix it. But knowing how I am, I don't think I care enough to spend the money to prove what I already know I can run. On the bottle, I am 100% sure I can get in the 12's, off the bottle I'm 100% sure I can hit 13's. I have just yet been able to prove it at the strip for you guys.

No slicks, just street tires. The tires are meant for road racing, so the side walls are stiff as hell. 235's are the width.

try making or using something like a ingalls torque dampner.
i have one on my gsr civic and it was night and day difference. use to have bad wheel hop/tire spin in 1st and 2nd, i put on a ingalls dampner and it hooks up and goes now.

you can get a generic dampner piece cheap off ebay and make your own brackets.

Drag racing is some thing I have done alot of. Suspensoin setup what I ran was tall in the back and low and soft in the front. Ur gonna have to run a cheater slick I know you have streeters on the car but you know what I mean. Just my 2 penney's.

Yep lots of meat on the tire, some flex in it, and some custom traction bars to help with the wheel hop. Mounts and dampener help, but it won't solve the problem.Tire pressure should be about 28-30psi tops. But yeah, look into custom traction bars.

I think you want the rear to be as stiff as possible. Any weight shifting to back means there's less weight over the front tires to keep traction. I don't know the numbers for sure, but I believe a lot of Civic/Integra guys run 1200 lb springs in the rear. That's a lot considering the cars usually weigh under 2300 lbs.

I didn't check the tire pressure, I just let the air out for 20 seconds for each front tire. I was too lazy to grab my gauge as I had the intention to leave after only 1 run.
As crazy as it sounds, I ran 10 psi in my Azenis 615's and pulled consistent 2.0 60 footers. Just by looking at your trap speed, you should have no problem running well into the 13's after the traction issue is solved.

Chris, did you look into an engine dampener at all? That helps a lot, and like others say, traction bars

too bad you have a 3.0 chris because there actually are traction bars for the 4cyl bodies.

but you seriously need slicks. that would help a whole lot.

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!!!!

Well, tonight started off as a normal night for myself. I headed out to my friend's house to pick something up. Well, he asked me if I knew that Gumball 3000 was going to be pulling up to the W in downtown Dallas tonight. I replied "no way!'. We headed out there only to meet up with another crowd of our friends that was already out there.

Anyways, long story short, I got to drive a 4 door skyline from the Gumball 3000! My friend and I were admiring this beautiful car when the owner asked us if we wanted to park it! We thought it was a joke, but he was dead serious. He is from Ireland, and told us he bought the car from Japan, shipped it to Ireland, then had it shipped to the US for the Gumball event, only to drive it from NY straight to LA, ran it in a D1 event, then ran it in the Gumball event.

Anyways, after we drove his car which I bogged, lol, we met up with him and his crew. He had 4 cars in the Gumball event! Anyways, one of my friends took my truck and him and 3 of his friends out to the local underground scene where they had a blast, while I hung out in the Ghost Bar with shorts and sandals with members of Gumball (it's a high end club, not a chance in hell you can get in with shorts, lol)!

Long story short, after the Gumball is over in Miami, they said they were going to come back to Dallas to hang out for a week. In which, means their skyline will be running my CL on the freeway. I will definitely run my 150 shot against it not giving a rats ass if I blow that engine again (damn right it'll be on video). I only hope they do come back and give us a call. They said they should be back in 4 days. If they do, we're throwing a barbeque at my place, and will be recording that race. Pray that it actually goes down....

Btw, they had 2 Bugatti Veyrons in that event. Damn were they beautiful. Once my friends email the pics, I'll post them of me and a friend driving the 4 door skyline.

Yes it is. I've had a shaved head for about 8 years now. Wanted to see what it was like to have long hair. I even have a pony tail in the back. Honestly, I don't know how much longer I'm going to let it grow. But I'm thinking I want the front down to my chin, and the back, well, we'll see. haha
