Humble mans opinion on CAI

I had first purchased the Injen CAI. Put it on and only heard a lot of noise but no noticeable hp gains. Have any of you guys left the stock box, put a k&n inbox filter, and removed all of the mumbo jumbo stuff after the box? I tried this and it feels a lot better and only half the noise. What do you guys think?

I would of modified the mumbo jumbo stuff after the box to get it to scoop up cooler air. Like the Volant boxes.

I put in the K&N with stock box, sounds stock at normal but at WOT gets loud. I am sure a CAI is much louder but i though there is a crazy difference.

Did you remove all the stuff after the box? I think they are resonators or something so it wont be as loud. I removed all that crap. In my opinion the car runs better that with cai.
This way it is still getting cold air.

I didn't remove the resonator. I am thinking about it because I know if you remove it you loose power at certain RPMs. I have to do more research on it.

Wait...when you are referring to "after the box," are you talking about the top tube running from the box to the throttle body, or the down tube from the box to the front wheel well cover?

Oh....forgot to ask: Has anyone ever tried to wrap the CAI's with heat resistant insulation tape that they use on headers to try and keep the noise down?

Somebody had a post about it. Kinda work, gains were not very high. Not worth really doing.
