HOW much mods would i have to beat a...

civic si or a prelude? the reason i ask this is because i just got burned by a 99 prelude si on the highway yesterday. we were going about 70... i redlined my 3rd and 4th gears... by the time i hit 5th gear, he passed me up. i was pretty pissed. it had a high wing... probably with an intake... rest looked stock.

so what kind of mods would i need in order to beat a slightly moded si or prelude... excluding nos (i don't think that i'm up to that just yet). thanks!

You can't do it short of nitrous or an engine swap. A 3.0 can hardly keep up and will also likely get burned by the lude. Preludes will eat an Si if they got the same mods.

my friends prelude is about the same speed as mine car and he has all the basic bolt ons. Ive raced civic si's and they didnt seem to be that fast. With a header, exhaust, and an intake you should be able to hang with an si.

I think it also depends on if its a Type SH, Si, or whatever...

I still think we'd lose to the lude if the driver really knows his car.
Both the civic si and the lude are extreme driver cars...

My friend can keep up with me to 80 in his civic si

It doesn't matter whether a Prelude is a type SH or not. They both have the same horsepower. The major difference is that the type SH handles better than the base model.

The stock prelude (>97) stock dyno at 158-160 hp.

The best I did with every na bolt on was 143.

Were missing a cam.

Well my 2.3 beats Preludes and Civic Si's all the time. Most races aren't even close. I beat an SI the other day with jun cams, vafc, intake, headers, exhaust and maybe some other stuff by atlest 4 cars legnths. Took him off the line and never looked back. But then again my car can also beat 3.0 by alot.
So Jamolie do every mod i have on my 2.3 and you'll never have to worry about ludes or si's again. Oh and by the way if you raced a '99 lude then it was not an SI. SI ludes are from '92-'96 and are DOHC non-vtec. After '97 all ludes came with a h22a4 200 hp dohc vtec wether it be a base model or an SH.

Wrong....non-SH preludes are faster than the SH. It doesn't make any sense.....but I guess the ATTS makes up for it on the SH.

I didn't realize one was faster than the other, but now I can see why. The SH is about 90lbs heavier than the base model.

Also it wasn't until 99 that preludes had 200hp. 97s and 98s had 195hp. I'm not trying to be a jerk, just anal I guess.

Where did you get that info. All '97+ ludes have the same exact engine, an h22a4. So why would one year have more hp than another?

Screw the mods, just stab his tire with an ice pick and then race away!

Doesn't matter what he has then, you have 4 good tires to race with while he'll only have 3!

those mods doesn't sound too far off.... yea, everytime i race my friend with his stock civic si, i get him off the line right until i shift to 3rd.... after which he passes me up in his second gear. btw... my friend told me that i can buy a chip that raises the rev limiter. is that true?

to clear up some confusion, i believe the Regular prelude has a h22 vtec while the SH has the h23 non vetc. both are dohc.
I think they just changed the Si to SH. Same setup with the old Si's.

I don't know why, but look it up. Try edmunds.com or cars.com. Here's a good one I just found auto.consumerguide.com/auto/used/reviews/full/index.cfm/id/2265.htm
SH types do have vtec just like the base models. But according to their specs the SH is slightly heavier. Perhaps that is just because they come standard with the spoiler, I don't know.
If any of you haven't driven one from 97 or later, you should, just to feel that vtec kick in at about 5500rpm. I wish my 98cl would kick like that when the vtec engages.

i think, aside from the spoiler, the SH only comes in M/T.

i actually bought a '97 Prelude (non-SH with SportShift) and replaced it with a '97 CL 2.2 after 10 days (the Honda dealer screwed up).

honestly, i think you feel more juice with the Prelude because of the power-to-body ratio. it is a lot lighter than the CL.

Let's clear this up:

92-96 prelude s had an f22(2.2 sohc non-vtec) 135hp 142tq
92-96 prelude si had an h23(2.3 dohc non-vtec) 160hp 156tq
93-96 prelude vtec had an h22a1(2.2 dohc vtec) 190hp 158tq

97-98 prelude base had an h22a4(2.2 dohc vtec)195hp 156tq
97-98 prelude sh had an h22a4(2.2 dohc vtec)195hp 156tq

99-01 prelude base had an h22a4(2.2 dohc vtec) 200hp 156tq
99-01 prelude sh had an h22a4(2.2 dohc vtec) 200hp 156tq

Honda got 5hp from a better header on the 99-01 model.

The sh weighs more because of the atts unit.
