How do you feel about your WOOD?
The faux wood trim used in our GEN1 CLs can be a topic of debate. Personally, I find the way it looks fairly convincing and I like the way it adds to the cabin's feel. However, from the day this car was released the press criticized Acura/Honda's effort by saying it looked like an "afterthought" as though it was merely "slapped on." My gripe is that the wood/plastic trim rattles, vibrates, and squeaks over slightly uneven surfaces. Does anyone else experience this? And, if so, is there anything I can do to shut it up? I mean, it's not excessive but it does get irritating. My dealer thinks I'm overanalyzing things.. go figure
Anyway, let's hear from ya regarding your wood.

Nothing's wrong with my Wood!
I like the way it looks, I haven't made my mind up on the after market kits because I haven't seen them in person yet. I'm not sure how the wood is attached to the car. If it's glued, put more glue on. If not, then I would say to use small pieces of rubber or a felt material to place behind the wood to take up the space and prevent the squeaks/ rattles.

Haha! True. I don't know, some people like the look of that faux marble-esque trim y'all have. Personally, I don't. It was bad enough having decent looking fake wood trim and then Acura went and changed to that, as you put it, "bowling ball" -looking thing. Ah, well, guess that's how Acura can keep the cost down to relatively affordable prices. When I test drove the new TL-S, the sales guy said he ordered his TL-S w/ blk leather and then paid extra for the wood trim kit. Anyway, yeah, I don't care for that black stuff on the new cars. I feel for ya.

I guess I'm just too happy with my Acura. I think the wood accents on the first gen CL look very classy. Maybe I'm ignorant, but I can't tell that it's not real wood.
If I get a TL Type-S next, I'm looking forward to getting an ebony interior with the black wood, and loading it up with the accessory wood kits as well. I think it looks GREAT! To each his own, I suppose.

I like the wood on parchment interiors but they black interiors should have the grey color dash like new type-s's.... I think my wood gives the interior a very classy and sophisticated look while i hold a sporty exterior look!

Well my wood is in good condition and all but I hate the way it looks soooo much, I wish I could have a titanium or carbon fiber look. It totally destroys the import look to the car. Just what I think though.

I love my wood. So much that I bought the same kit as juniorbean. It looks really good. The only problem I've had with the kit I got is that it's the kind you just stick on, and I kinda put it on lopsided in one place, which looks silly... but nobody but me has ever noticed it.

VXCL, you can just buy a wood shift knob, I've seen them around, I don't know what style you like though.
I think the wood looks fine, it's true that there is not enough of it, I feel that if it's there then go all the way, mine just has the one piece horizontally in the dash/door and when you really think about it it does look a little out of place. I have black trim and wood trim. I'd rather have all Aluminum trim. (It would suck when the aluminum gets all dented and dimpled though)

Agreed. I prefer the look that Acura upgraded to in the '98+ models. I prefer that look where they redid the center console area. In those cars, the wood and chrome accents look better. I also wish I had the audio controls on the steering wheel.

It's usually like $250 but they have sales all the time; I got it for like $192 shipped.
BTW I just installed my shift knob, I got aluminum because I couldn't find a wood one that would match the wood I already have, but the alum. matches because my maplight buttons are aluminum.
I'll take a picture tonight if I can.

Didn't Acura sell accessory wood shift knobs for our car?
And did I read Maui's post correctly that the '97 didn't have steering wheel-mounted audio controls? If so, there's another difference between '97 and '98!

That's right, Ice... NO CONTROLS on the steering wheel, just the cruise. Our cruise control buttons don't even have that "cancel" feature on it either.
