how do i get rid of understeer?

I MEAN OVERSTEER!!!!

my rear end gives out way before my front end. what are some ways to decrease this? im guessing any upgrade in upper strut bar in the front will increase this. what about an upper strut bar in the rear and lower tie bar? or should i just get some st sways? i was testin out the drop prokit/koni yellow setup and i spun out 90 degrees got control and spun it 90 back and went on my way. i know the oem tires dont help, but i spun the rear around like it was a rwd car. what about the setting on my shocks? will setting the rears firmer help with traction in the rear?
thanks -MiKE

well....

get some sticky tires. make the rears softer, and get a front swaybar w/o upgrading the rear.

you should be back to plow city.

but do soften the rear settings some.

i wouldnt replace the front strut bar because its attached in two places. if you want to upgrade some more, get the neuspeed one to supplement it.

LIke 1st gen cl said, you could get a fatter front sway. You could also lessen the air in the back tires 5-7 psi to get a fatter contact patch. If possible the spring rates in the rear should be set a little lower that front, too little will cause oversteer. I dont know that much this is just how i see it. Do you have a camber kit?? I konw that some negative camber will increase the turn in thus causing the rear to loose it pretty quickly. I really dont know if this is true, just using some common sense. Please correct me if im wrong. If im right then im just lucky. Good luck.

wow, you've got to much oversteer? I thought that was impossible for this car. I want oversteer cause understeer fucking BLOWS!. Does the back end actually break loose? I'd suggest changing the bushings in the sway bars. BUt it sounds like you ahve the ultimate setup, why change it?

seeing you have OEM tires, that is definately the way to go. Don't change anything till you change your tires.

How are you getting too much oversteer??? I'm running the 26mm S/T rear bar with a stock front bar and it's almost pleasantly neutral. What tire pressures are you using?

If you wanna run with us at the NASA-x event at Giant's Stadium on 3/30, let me know & I'll help you out.

i haven't adj the camber in the front yet, maybe this is an isolated incident, but i took a basic 1/4 circle turn at about 60 and the rear just let go. i was in shock, but by the time i realized it i had already corrected it and was straight again.

ridin low i would like to go to the auto-x. i have never done it. depends if i have school work to do at penn state. do i need a helmet? all i have is my dirt bike helmet. how much will it cost? i got a 2.2cl auto i/h/e/p pro-kit/koni yellow. even if i dont run i still would like to come watch.

There's really no point going just to watch, it's quite boring to watch.

And they have loaner helmets for people that don't have their own. Let me know if you wanna meet up there (I'll be there anyway).

You may want to play around with alignment settings in the rear if you are uncomfortable. Very close to zero or positive toe in the rear will aid the rotation of the car, or make it more prone to oversteer. Since you have koni yellows, I would start with adjusting them, since they're almost infinitely adj. Start with the fronts at full stiff and leave the rears the way they are, work the fronts down from there until you feel comfortable with the balance. Keep in mind when playing around w/ adjusting, if you perceive understeer, you can compensate by stiffening the rears. Its a fine edge, and its all about your own personal comfort level.

...and you should try that under controlled conditions and off public roads, such as an autox.

If you don't mind smacking guardrails or innocent people when you discover that the last tire pressure setting gave you a little too much oversteer. :P

It's also possible that your car might be set up very nicely for autox speeds (under 50 mph), but a neutral handling car at 30 mph is very likely an oversteering monster at 60. Did you figure out what your tire pressures are yet?

yeah oem tires i have 29psi front 32psi rear. also cuz of the drop my front wheel camber is slightly like this /------\. and i think the drop cuased both my front lower ball joints to go. i squeek like a mouse now. cna i leave it for awhile? i cant afford to repair them.

Lots of negative front camber will give you lots of lateral grip up front compared to the rear which contributes to oversteer. Running more pressure in the rear generally gives you more oversteer because higher pressures let the rear tires "balloon" which reduces the size of the contact patch, especially with the light rear end on a FWD car.

So, go get an alignment and a camber kit if you need one, and run 36 psi up front and 30 in the rear. You need more pressure in front to counteract the weight of the motor and tranny.

I dunno mang, that's kinda hard to diagnose over the net. Maybe you can have a mechanic look at it?

Hi Mike,

If your front wheel drive car has oversteer, then you are lifting off the throttle while in a turn. Stop doing that and you won't have oversteer. It isn't a matter of the tires, sway bars or anything like that, it is driver induced (please don't take that personally).
