Hood refinshing(repaint)
Hood refinshing(repaint)
My hood has a TON of teeny-tiny little chips and some big chips. It's about time to repaint it.
Should I have Acura do it, or go to a reputable body-shop?
Should I request the hood be taken off so there won't be any chance of over-spray and masking lines? - If they do remove it, will it be hard as hell to re-align the hood?
Should I ask for extra clear-coat? Since it seems that the smallest thing can chip Honda/Acura paint. Plus mine is red so everything shows up.
Finally, about how much should this cost? I'm in Northern VA.

I got a quote from the Acura dealership here in OKC for the hood, front bumper, and the front fenders (to color match). Total price $1200. I don't know if it's worth that to me, think of the mods you could do... I did get a few of the scratches out using touch up paint, rubbing compound, then 3M finishing glaze with a high speed buffer. You might try that first. Good luck with it!
3M Imperial Microfinishing Compound Liquid is the proper name. It's used after wet sanding or repainting finishes. 3M makes a whole multi-step line of stuff for professional use. You have to get it at an auto paint supplier or what not. Careful with it tho, gotta make sure to use a high sped buffer and use wax afterwards. Does alright on fine scratches. I need to do it more thouroghly again. I'll post b4 and after pics once I get it done.
