Higher wattage headlight bulbs

I saw in some older posts that some of you had replaced the headlights with higher wattage bulbs. I have a pair of hi and low bulbs sitting here that I accidentally ordered that are high wattage.

They are listed as "100/80W".

Question is, to those of you using higher wattage bulbs did you upgrade your wiring for the bulbs? Any info. would be great since I can't return these bulbs. JZ

As long as they fit in the socket (meaning that they're 9005/9006 hi/low bulbs), they'll be fine, with no extra wiring. Be forewarned though... those high wattage bulbs don't last very long. I bought some 80w ones in Feb and they died last week, so I bought some new ones and the guy made a big deal outta the fact that he warranties them for a whole 3 months. *sigh* I guess you can't have everything.

Just make sure you're putting the right bulb in the right socket; the 9005 bulbs WILL blind someone if you try to use it like a 9006.

well there have been cases of people with Acuras running 80 or 100 watt bulbs that burn up their wiring harnesses and melt their light housings. You shouldnt have a problem with 80 watt bulbs but make sure the headlight housing doesnt get really hot and start to melt anything.

I have 55 watt white bulbs in my low beams and 100 watt blue bulbs in my high beams, they both came out of my '90 accord before and I have had them for about a year and still no problems. I'm not really into all the blue and hyper white bulbs, but I could not find 100 watt clear blubs, so i just went with the blue. But the wirring in both of my cars has held up just fine, I think they might be a little brighter if I re-wired it, but I think all is fine for me.

Hmmmm. Makes me wonder. My gut tells me that the stock wiring will not like those wattages. But damn, the upgraded wiring harnesses are like 50$ each!!

What to do with these bulbs, what to do. Next time I order bulbs off the internet I should do one (or all of these things):
1. Do not do so at 3am after drinking multiple beers.
2. Do not order from autotoys.com where they have a no return policy (didn't think anywhere had a no return policy these days).

Oh well.

I know you can make your own upgraded wiring harness but im not exactly sure how. If your interested in it I would do a search on www.metacrawler.com or something like that for the philips lighting forum. I'll try to find it later for you. Im sure it shows you how to make the harness somewhere in there or you can just post a question on it. Oh i meant to add in my last post that i have 80 watt Xaxos Xenons and no problems for the month i had them in but decided to chance them out for some philips cool blue standard wattage (no blue at all by the way just alittle whiter and legal)cause i really didnt like the ricer look.

Used to have Lo beam at 80 Watt - they would burn up every 1.5 - 2 month. Switch to 55W.

Left Hi Beam with 100Watt - don't used much. so they'll last longer.
