HIDs installed!!!!

WARNING: 56K, don't click the links!

Well it wouldn't let me modify the post I started earlier, so here's a new one.

First, let me thank dajuice27 again! Excellent seller, items were packed nicely and shipped promptly. Def reccomended! Now you guys buy all his other stuff he's selling!

I think I figured out why our stock headlights suck, it's b/c they melt the damn bulbs! See here: http://public.fotki.com/proaudio22/cl/picture_047.html I hope the HIDs don't make as much heat - anyone know? Do they run cool like neon/fluorescent?

Here's a pic of the whole setup out of the box: http://public.fotki.com/proaudio22/cl/picture_046.html I put the bulb in, it was a simple drop in - no problems whatsoever.

I still have the stock airbox for now, so I mounted the drivers side ballast to the side of the airbox facing the engine, back from the battery. http://public.fotki.com/proaudio22/cl/picture_059.html It looks pretty nice, and is kinda hidden. http://public.fotki.com/proaudio22/cl/picture_060.html I'll remount it when I finally get an intake.

I didn't mount the passenger side ballast permanently. I plan to also have a strobe power supply and high beam flasher in the same location. When I get those, I'll make a nice bracket to hold all three. Until then, I just used some of this nice 3M double sticky tape. Two 1x4" strips. Very nice stuff, I used it in a rack at work to hold a power supply - held just fine for 6 months! If you knew how much audio equip cases get moves around, etc you'd know that was a grand feat!

The light is very nice, looks to be at least 2x as bright. No nasty glare, it actually looks nice - how an Acura's front should look. Here's a pic for comparison: http://public.fotki.com/proaudio22/cl/picture_051.html Here's another pic with both HIDs done: http://public.fotki.com/proaudio22/cl/picture_065.html

Sorry for all the linked pics. I'm just using a free Fotki account until I finally set up my free Comcast one. Pics were all taken in my garage, I just turned off the lights for the dark shots. I love the look, I can't wait to drive when it gets dark to see how they look. Def worth the $200 beans! Very nice capsules in the bulbs, they aren't coated with any silly blue stuff. The blue tint you see is a 100% result of the capsule.

HIDs rock!

Well I wasn't sure. I just know that some on this board and on another complain about clicking on links with pics b/c they take too long to load and freeze up their computers or w/e. I just said it as a precaution.

alright...this is crazy...the whole HID set up is just this?!?!?

http://public.fotki.com/proaudio22/cl/picture_046.html

How hard is the wiring and install!?! do u have to cut anypart of the headlight housing or do the bulbs just plug on in like the OEM ones do??? It installing HIDS really even THAT hard?!?! Can u have HIDS like your install and then have the projector lense like VXCL has??

How much was the whole setup? How much would it cost me to have everything like u have...the whole thing??

PS: are yours like 6000K?? what are they?/

it will not work with a projector setup like mine or VXCL, projectors need D2R and D@S bulbs in my case i need H1 so , no they will not fit.

hids all you need ot do it tap in and plug and play

if you wanted a projector setup like min it will run you60-70 depending on what projectors mike has usually i dont know if that includes bulbs and connectors, if you do it yourself which i recommend, it is a set up in customizing the ride, it wont run ya much, if you have him do it i think he charges 150 or so, but im not 2 sure, pm him and ask him

how makes that kit BTW?

I hate you now!!!!!!!

Just kiddin'. I am glad I could be of help to you and thanks for the plug, I hope to sell the rest of the stuff soon. They do look great at night, just make sure you aim them properly or you will get flashed by high beams all night long. Seat your bubble slightly below level for the best road illumination in good and bad weather.

Yep, that's it.

I had the bulbs in both sides and the ballasts plugged up in 15 mins. I finished up within an hour, it took more time to mount the ballasts and put the intake and engine covers back together. You can have HIDs in the projectors, but it used a different BASE - the CAPSULE - the acutal HID part is the same. You will need to buy different bulbs tho. The ballasts will work with all of them. So if you buy a setup like this now, you can upgrade the bulbs later if you decide to get the projector.

How much was the whole setup? How much would it cost me to have everything like u have...the whole thing??
I paid $200 for the HIDs, gently used from dajucie27. Brand new the a similar kit would run $400-$500.

PS: are yours like 6000K?? what are they?
They are supposed to be 7000K. I've read that there is no such thing as a 7000K without coating the bulb (which reduces the light) - that only 6000K is possible. These bulbs do not have any coatings, so if the above is true - then they are 6000K. However, they really do look like 7000K to me - nice bluish tint to them.

Well, it might actually look similar if he has some very deep blue coated bulbs. However, I probably have 4x the light output.

Yes, 7000K (see above post on this tho).

I can't figure out which mark is level. There is one mark towards "up" and another mark in the middle of all of the marks.

Don't worry about HIDs for the Jeep man! It's all about auxillary lighting - get some of the pimp HID driving lights and a whole rack up top.

I forgot to tell you guys - I compared the exposure on my Sony digital btwn the two side. I filled up the viewfinder with as much of the headlight as possibe. There was three stops difference btwn the halogen and the HID! That's about three times more light from the HID!

You've gotta be joking!

There's no comparison between Xenon bulbs and true HIDs!

proaudio22: They look great! Congrats on the HIDs!

BTW: Did you get the Helix on yet?

LOL, i dont know where to start with you.... Any ways HID's were my first upgrade. They are so nice, I got 6200k so it had a bit of a purplish tint.... I think they look alot like the factory hid's on a 3.2. Very nice install by the way. I think i might move my ballas't on the air box like you did, on the driver side im not sure where to put it yet... so its stuck to the inner fender.. I will probably put it in the bumper or something. Congrats...

Ps prepare to get flashed by people brights.. Even with mine aimed very low, people still like flashing there brights at me. I cant wait to buy hid's for my high beams so when they flash me i will turn them on and itll be like daylight outside. , Chris

Thanks Rick! I did not install the Helix yet, I'm debating on whether to wait until I get an intake or just put it on. I'm also considering ripping out the stupid bendy part of the air box for the time being. You think I'll notice anything by putting the Helix on w/ the stock airbox? I mainly bought it for the sound hehe.

I thought that airbox mounting position was a pretty good place for now. I drove it last night some and passed a good number of cars and didn't have any problem. I thought about HIDs for my high beams too, but I plan on having a high beam flasher and I don't think HIDs would like turning on and off that much.

I'd wait and get the CAI before installing the Helix. Otherwise, you won't here the wonderful sound it makes!

You still dont have projectors though:P
Nice choice on the Kelvin rating though, higher than 7000 usually sucks.

Yea, yea :P I'm going for the stock appearance (unless you pop the hood or trunk hehe) so I'm pretty happy with this setup. The light is VERY nice, compared to the shit that was in there.

It's a throttle body spacer. It gives maybe 3hp max gains, but it makes a kick ass turbo spooling sound w/ an intake. Sounds like this (it's a V6 Accord w/ Helix and intake): www.insomniakz.com/turbosoundrev.MPG

i feel you on the oem look. thats why i keep my car clean and simple. the plan was to look like a sema cl if there was one. my setup doesnt look like an oem cl, but it does look like it came from acura that way. nobody knows any different. i like when ppl ask waht kind of car is it and how much and is it a 2004. hahahha some ppl are just stupid. if i didnt say it already put ambers in ur corners. the contrast against the xenon looks sweet.
