Hid Experts...
so I bought this HID PLUS xenon headlight kit a year or two ago, one of the bulbs has JUST changed color dramatically, it flickers when i take a turn too fast or drive over bumps slightly, doesn't happen often but happens enough to notice, the color on the driver side bulb is not the color it used to be, (white blue), its like almost a bright halogen color now, but the bulb definitely does not match
i've looked for replacement bulbs, but the best i found was 119.99,

too expensive for just one bulb, if i change i got to change two right? i want to get white bulbs now, anyone know if there is a cheaper alternative? is there a way to run let's say a oem bulb outta lexus or acura to my HID plus hella ballasts? thanks for any feedback, my headlights are so annoying now, i gotta get it fixed asap

does the connector in your ballasts look like this?
if so i can get you 2 oem philips d2s 4100k bulbs for $80 shipped, but ull have to get them to focus and stay in place. basically you'll have to modify the bulb or the housing. if your ballasts dont have d2s connectors then there's nothing you can do.
this is one of the many reasons why im completely against kits.

I know of some adapters that can be purchased for a few of the kits if he'll find or post a pic of what his look like. That way his ballast won't be a total waste. You can also buy the connector above and put it back on the lead wires, abet shorter.
I'm starting to think of projectors Mike, S2000s.

I saw these friggin beautiful lights come up from behind about a week ago. Perfect blue tint, very bright. My kit make it look almost yellow. The beam pattern was perfect, bright light every damn where lol. S2K zipped by. I was like
I wonder how much this will go for. Housing, bulb, ballast, the whole nine yards.

Can the projector even be pulled from the housing?

i would say about $400 for both headlamps with bulbs and ballasts unless the buyer really needs new complete headlamps and not the parts, then maybe $600, but since the guy has zero feedback that might hurt him. of course the projector comes out!

that's what mines looks like, its dark out right now and i don't have my digicam on me but i'll get some pics asap, but for now will that work, i need some help customizing a 9006 base on too, can anyone do that? i'm willing to pay for the work, i just need a cheaper pair of bulbs rather then payin a 110 each....thanks for the reply guys
i would do it for you, but i dont have a 9006 headlamp to focus it on. damn xenon projectors! even if i get it to line up perfect with a 9006 bulb like in a kit, that doesnt mean it will net the best output. not all halogen reflectors are the same. i would really like to see it in action b4 i send something to you.

by any chance are you going to be doing some type of retrofit soon, because then you could use the housing to focus a pair of bulbs? i'll grab pics tonight, hope the flash will be enough light to get some decent pics
i have no conversions planned at this time. if i can get a 9006 headlamp from the shop i will.
if i was to do this for you
1. i would need the $80 up front becuase once i modify the bulbs they are yours
2. my final price would be about $120-150 for 2 modified d2s bulbs shipped.
again thats if i can do it. im at school and i dont know if ill have access toa 9006 headlamp

120 sounds real good, since i'm completely short for cash, the bulb still works so i'm not in dire dire need, let's hope the d2s match up, i'll have pics ready soon

actually, they just finished uploading, they aren't great pics but their pics, it was dark so i had to improvise, and i'm not driving my car this week since i'll be going boarding, goin to bring up the suv,
there are pics of the ballast, the connectors, there are three of them, i tried to take a picture of all three, the bulb inside the housing, and a picture of the mismatched headlights, as well as a picture of the manual that i got with the whole package
this is how they are supposed to look

What a crappy kit look at the glare and hot spots, all over the place and there is no cutoff of light on the garage door.
My advice to everyone get yourself a set of OEM projectors and ballests like the ones off an audi or BMW for the best results these crappy kits never last and just blind on coming drivers.
Listen to VXCL he knows is stuff it really isn't that hard to do a retro fit on a set of headlights the hard part is aiming the projectors and wiring them up. I am going to be swapping a pair of S2000 projectors into my headlights come spring it is just a little to cold in Toronto right now to be working on a car in my garage.
the S2000 projectors are sweet because they are european spec type projectors they have a sharp cutoff which produces a flicker with a nice blue hue.

the kit has done just fine for me, the way our reflector housings are, its hard to aim, until the bulb got jacked, the bulb was originally a osram bulb that i guess was coated? but at the time of purchase (2 years ago) i was "told" 7000k was the best light output and similation of OEM hid, this was way before anyone was doing any projector conversions on this board
though its very possible that i will be doing a projector conversion pending on a few things
my question is that will i be able to use these ballasts that i have to wire up some d2s bulbs?

That does n't look like a DS2 connector to me.
Best thing to do is sell that kit and get yourself some OEM Audi or BMW stuff they never fail. It is a pain in the ass but in the long run it will save you time, heart ache and money.
It is still possible to have your connector spliced and wired to a ds2 connector i have seen Ds2 wiring harnesses for these type of situations on ebay. Guys with toyota supras go through the same problem as well.
Honestly even if you can rewire it why not just go through the trouble of selling your kit and retroing a pair pf projectors into the headlights you will be much happier with the light output.

I can't really tell anything from those pics, none of them show both of the connectors that plug into the HID capsule clearly. It looks like it *might* be like these, which are quite popular on kits. The bigger red connector is the standard D2S/D2R.

I don't think you will have much luck selling the kit with the basicly screwed up bulbs. The ballasts you have are the OEM type for many cars, the connector has just been modified. If you have the type of connectors on the adapter above, just pick up a set of those for $25. Then you do whatever you want - try to fit D2S/D2Rs in the 9006 hole, projectors, whatever. Your ballasts are just fine - there is NO reason to take a loss on them and buy another set.

I'm still confused...how come some people have hid kits that were plug and play and some people had to modify the housing/bulb? If the bulbs don't fit properly, why are they (the kits) advertised as 9006 plug and play?
