HELP!!! wheel and tire discrepency

Here's the deal. I'm looking at buying 17x7.5 wheels with
215/45-17. I heard from a few people that I shouldn't use 215 on 7.5" rims because the tire would be stretched for this size and the tire is too narrow for 7.5" rims. Anyone having any problems running this combination.

Should I go with 225's. I'm stuck and would like to already order my rims.

Also, I've read many posts about what offset to use. Every seems to think +42 works best. Will +40 be okay or should I stay with +42.

Thanks in advance,
Erik

I would think you would be alright with the 7.5" width. You should be alright with the +40mm offset also, your wheels will just be in a tiny bit more.

I have 205/40/17 tires on my 17x7.5 rims for close to a year. Who ever told you that 215 width tires would not fit, is totally wrong.

almost every service guy I talk to from all these wheel shops say that with 17x7.5" you should be riding 225's in order to correctly fit you're rim. If you're running 205 on a 7.5" rim isn't your rim sticking out further than the tire. You're actually stretching out the tire to fit the rim. Also, many of the people that I've talked to looked our car up and for 17x7.5 Acura recommends 225.

I don't know, I'm just going with what was told to me.
