that's a great coincidental dummy test, wouldn't want vtec to kick in when ur low on oil. yes, I'm aware vtec is activated by oil pressure, but it's nice that they made it that way.

where the heck is the solenoid at on the 3.0? i found pictures of the 2.x but I looked and can't find anything that even resembles that on my 3.0 unless its under some cover or something. My oil is fine but when passing gear kicks in while on interstate the CEL comes on with p1259 code so I manually shifted the trans and when it hits 4500-5000 rpm it kind of stays there and won't go any faster so I am guessing the sensor is bad unless someone else knows what else to try before changing the solenoid. But have to find the dern thing first

well only thing i have had problems with is egr thing, dash, lights and now vtec....yeah all kinds of problems. I think I am the one who caused the problem with the dash though so can't really blame that one on the car. As far as driving and running it does great there is just a few little things like this that I am finding wrong. if I never kicked it in I would have never known about this code coming up because in normal driving the CEL doesn't come on just when you kick it in for quite a bit of distance. if little stuff didn't bother me so bad half the stuff I have done wouldn't have never have had to be changed but I go to fix a small little annoyance and it turns into something else happening

ok I found the dern thing but can't even get my hand to fit anywhere near it on the front of the engine (which is the passenger side). Anyone know a way to get to the thing? Not sure what happened to the picture from alldata but its missing now if anyone needs it I have it saved on my computer and can send it to you (must be against the rules to post on this site)

aight well looks like I am gonna have to takle this on my own. My solenoid looks to be down next to the oil filter instead of in the head like everything I have found describes. I found on alldatapro how to check it and all so i guess i will try all this tomorrow if I can raise the car up so I can get under it and see if I can reach it from the bottom

No sure what All-Data says for checking put there is generally only two wires going to the solenoid on the top. If current is running properly through them you should hear the valve inside the solenoid open and close when power is given and then taken away. If it seems to test ok then make sure the filter screen is clean, I would even try to clean out the housing under the solenoid to make sure it's clear of any oil sludge or whatever.

yeah it says the resistance should be between 14 and 30 Ohm and if that checks out take out the solenoid and then check the filter for clogging and if all that is good check the valve to make sure it moves in and out freely. Thats basically what it says to do to check everything. Thanks for responding. Its raining today so may not be able to get under it today

ok it cleared up enough for me to put it on the lift and get under it to check it out. I took it off and the screen is clean, and the resistance checked out good but there was one wire that had come out of the connector. not one of the wires that plugs into the solenoid but the one coming from the solenoid and plugs into another plug, a single wire. I put the filter assembly back where it goes and plugged that one wire back in where it goes and plugged the other plug back in and so far i haven't been able to get the problem to replicate itself and the vtec seems to be kicking in as it should as it now will go over 5000 RPM and no CEL on
