nah.. cut the connector for the cig lighter.. i've hooked it up to the amps before.... you dont get more power than the battery supplies in any case.
by the way..... i havent had any interfearance through the amps after i hooked up the neon.

one more ques...
Thanks for your help... I hooked it up to the amps pwr & grnd connectors, and it stays on all the time, (i cant do that becasue the battery will go dead) So... I hooked it up to the speaker terminals but, it will only come on when the bass hits. (the light has a switch to flash with the music or stay on all the time) I can switch it either way & it still only comes on with the music... any ideas ???? Thanks again...

ski hole
I installed it above the ski hole (one of the amps shows through the hole) so I would like it to be on when the stereo is on, not only when the trunk opens.... I hope I explained that so it made sense... let me know if I can still use the switch install & wire it through the amps pwr & grnd (not the spkr terminals) Thanks alot..

Just wire it to the trunk light. that way when the trunk opens the neon will come on and when it closes the neon goes off.

The safest way would be to use a separate relay (Bosch style), using your turn on wire to close the relay (when you turn on your headunit) and supply the neons with direct power (w/fuse) separate from your amp. This way if your neon wiring ever shorts, you won't be nailing your amp power and blowing amp or main fuse.
