Help on Keeping Paint *MINT*
Hey A-Zine Fam! What's Up?
To be honest, I kind of keep on falling in and out of love with my CL.. I've been wanting to paint my car for the longest. I've saved and saved and finally I have the money to go ahead and do it. The few things holding me up from painting the car are basically things are out of my control.
My number one issue is that I attend school about 800+ miles away from home. A lot of things can Happen on a road trip on I-95. I've seen a fellow A-Ziner (dragon) With this pimped custom paint job tape the car off. So that's something I think I might do.
Number 2... Like I said I attend a university where 96% of the people can not drive or park. Every so often I come out from class and see a mark on my car that wasn't there before. I would be steamed if I saw a mark on my fresh paint.
Number 3.. I work in a busy area of the town, where shopping carts are involved.. I've been a victim of run away shopping cars twice already. It's wasn't cool but, I was able to let it slide. But, on the FRESH PAINT!???!! I don't know WTF I'd do..
Basically this thread is asking for advice on ways to keep my paint fresh and out of harms way, Or should I wait until I graduate and move back home.. Accidents happen everywhere, so I don't know.. Help Me out..

Do some paint restoration, and paint it when you graduate

don't paint it if you feel that it is more vulnerable right now to paint issues, wait till you graduate
if you're getting paint done somewhere how much is it costing you?
this is one reason why it would be hard for me to pay out of pockt for a paintjob unless it's a toy/weekend car, cuz it just costs too damn much

Also how did all that stuff happen to your car? not trying to sound like an ass or anything, but it looks like your car has gone through a whole lotta wear/tear/damage to the outside

^1450 sounds like a really good deal, but unless you're like best friends with the painter, you usually get what you pay for. My paint job which was covered by insurance after my car got keyed was about 3500 and it still wasn't a mint paintjob. And especially if you're thinking of changing to a diff color (with changing the color of the door jams, engine bay) that should cost you a hell of a lot of money. My buddy spent 8000 color changing his car completely just to a plain white, but it looks like really good quality.

I thought about changing the color to another black but I don't know yet.. any suggestions?
All of the damage done to the car is from the previous owner.. entirely!! I haven't done anything to the outside besides changing replacing the molding that I got from a junk yard for 5 bucks..

I thought about doing that. I could park behind my job out of the way of the world but, when it comes to school parking.. there isn't one single place that is out of the way.. everything is side by side..
The Hospital is just as bad as school

I have Black Sapphire Metallic from BMW, it looks good, maybe a little too much different flake colors for me tho, but it does look so good when it's clean so i'm kinda undecided on it
depending on what you are looking for tho, just find a nice day and go to a few different dealerships or a complex where they have a few dealerships together and check out all the different blacks. Just make sure the cars are clean so you can tell exactly what kinda flake is in them.
what kinda black are you looking for? lots of diff colored flake, or just plain looking?

Java Black Pearl from Subaru, it's black with gold flake, looks pretty good, been done a few times on cars for aftermarket paintjobs cuz of it's popularity

1999 CL3.0
dont paint it yourself.
get a beater if ur gonna get serious with it.
I would definitely not get serious with a 97 CL, as those are not as nice, unless u swap
the console, tach, wheel, skirts, etc etc.
98/99, now we are talking.
Honestly though, if you want to keep the car forever, then paint it.
I know I'm keeping mine forever.
Yeah it's a money pit, but I honestly think my 1st Gen CL is a sick ass car.
I love looking at it, It's mad comfortable, and the interior is simple yet refined.
The car takes regular gas, is easy to maintain and you can always swap in an engine.
If you are really really serious about the car, when you buy a beater, look at buying a
backup engine for the vehicle and store the spare engine.
All of this depends on if you have a garage, your income, your marital status, etc.
i.e. dont paint your CL if you live in an apartment and you work at McDonalds.
If you have a place w/ a garage and you are making good money and you are single
and you really feel strong about the car, all signs are green.

UPDATE:
Well, I made up my mind. I'm choosing not to paint the car right now.. But, I will be getting the body work (along with a few other secrets) done . For about $700.00 in the early part of April..
Oh, I also and getting another quote from a guy out here that said he'll paint my car for less than the price I was quoted ($1450.00) I meet with him on Monday.. People say he does great work. I'll have to see what he's talking about.

No, I chose to not paint the car now and to wait until *RIGHT BEFORE* I graduate.. Then I'll paint the car because I know it'll be safer at my House. I will however be getting the body work done to the car.. Instead of driving around with an uneven bumper/lip, dents, mirrors etc.. Hope that clears up any confusion.

^fixing dents would require either dent pulling or puddy, sanding and primer. correct?
from what i've heard it's not good to drive around with primer and stuff on your car for extended periods of time.
if it were me, i'd just get it done all at one time, cuz what happens if you get a door ding after they've done the bodywork to your car, then you're gonna have to go back in to get more work done before you can paint it.
but that's just my atleast you're not getting it all done right now

I understand why some may say I should get it done all at once but, honestly I need to do something with this car before I completely lose my Love for the CL.
